I like this blend that I bought a while ago but it is getting it. I think its called "Montreal Steak" but its for burgers and other types of beef. Can anyone help me season a hamburger without a prefab spice concoction.

There's all kinds of ways to season burgers!! One of my favorite is using any powdered onion soup mix and mixing it with the hamburger meat. Another good one that I use is A-1 sauce, mustard powder, onion powder and garlic powder. It tastes great and the burger isn't dry after cooking. Good luck!!

There are many schools of thought on this that go from - all you need on good marbled beef is some salt & pepper to the extreme end of the spectrum where everything but the kitchen sink gets mixed into the beef.
I often do my burgs (at home in the kitchen in my cast iron pan) the same way unless I want to do something different. I add chopped onion, rosemary, sometimes an egg (when I remember), some grated cheese, salt to taste. I eat it rare (when I don’t add the egg).

House Seasoning:

1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder
Combine ingredients in a small bowl.

Here's a recipe to make your own seasoned salt that tastes a lot like Lawry's:

2 tablespoons salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Pour the blend into an empty spice bottle to store.

I discovered its easier to season hamburger before pan-frying, grilling or broiling it. After opening the package, I put it in a bowl and add fresh-ground black pepper, sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, steak sauce and whatever else I decide I want to try - making the best, most delicious-tasting burgers I can.

Sometimes I add egg substitute or whole eggs or the concoction I use for meat loaf.

Sometimes I mix-in imitation crabmeat to make what I call “the broke man’s surf and turf” [I’m sorry, I don’t like using the word “poor” - only because “poor” is a state of mind, which may be turned into reality - BUT THAT is another subject of discussion.]

It all depends on what I feel like doing or trying for that particular meal.

While the burger is cooking, I NEVER press on it or press down on it using a spatula or fork - to make it cook faster. When I want a burger to cook faster, I make a thinner, wider burger. I LOVE a juicy burger! AND when I use provolone cheese or Swiss cheese OR any other kind of cheese, OR bacon, it makes the burger that much more interesting and delicious!

AND one other burger I make: a "ChateauBurger"! THE burger for two! Its about 3 or 4 times the size of one of my conventional burgers. AND to accompany it, I make homemade mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, a couple fresh veggies and LOTS of sautéed onions! Everything is very nicely arranged on a platter - shared with the one I care for and love THE most - "THE Goddess"!

Served and "carved" at the table - AND OF COURSE - dining by candlelight! (((VERY romantic!)))

I THINK that's what we'll be having! "Dinner for 2 - at 8!" Thanks for "jogging" my memory!

I love that Montreal Steak Seasoning on beef, chicken, veggies, or in soups! I buy it by the quart at Costco!!!

If I didn't use that for hamburgers, I'd season them w/ kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, then hit w/ a little worcestershire sauce while they are sitting on theplate, waiting to go on the grill. Nice flavor, IMO.

I'm with Havana on this one ---- A-1STEAK SAUCE ALL THE WAY!!!! Some people don't get the commercials about the guy dropping a dollop of A-1 on his grill and then shows him with a bandage on his tongue.....Yeah, it is THAT good and it makes an AMAZING, JUICY burger. Mix it in with the meat and then lightly season the outside (salt, pepper, Tony Catcherie's) and you've got it made!

I like to mince onions and put into the mix with salt, pepper, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce.

Season it with what YOU like. I put seasoned salt and lots of pepper on mine, my hubby likes his that way too. Our youngest sons prefers the McCormick Hamburger seasoning.

I use garlic powder, dried onion flakes, worchestershire sauce, salt and/or pepper. It really depends on what you like-the worchestershire will give it a more sour flavor, garlic and onion are savory.
