Many women's lavatories offer a disposable paper cover. If the public facility doesn't offer it and it's clean, I just sit. If it's filthy, I just try to wait. If I have no choice, I'll use paper if I have extra.

Sometimes I use a paper cover or toilet paper especially if the seat doesn't look so great. I read a study that said that your desktop at work has more germs on it than the average public toilet. I also remember that urine, while gross, is sterile when it comes out. I am more obsessed with keeping my hands uncontaminated after I wash them because of the folks who don't bother with washing their hands and it's just disgusting to think of the amount of fecal matter left on their hands. Those door handles going out of any public restroom can never be clean enough for me.

I try not to do anything in a public toilet, but if I'm desperate and have to go, even for a wee, I put toilet paper round AND squat. Prevention is better than cure.

I carry a small can of spray disinfectant that I spray over the seat on those rare occasions that I use a public toilet. It's probably more effective than toilet paper -- if there is moisture on the seat, it will soak through the toilet paper. The disinfectant kills any bacteria and you can just quickly wipe it off.

I wipe the toilet with toilet paper than flush. Then I use toilet paper to layer the seat before I sit down. Who Doesn't?

Yes, all the time...Doesn`t everybody who is sane? Who knows what dirty, filthy disease you can contract from there. Try what I do. Double or triple stack the paper around it. The more you have the softer it becomes:-)

If they don't have the disposable covers, yes, I cover it with toilet paper.
