They believe this because they WANT to believe it. It is a form of positive thinking, and sometimes positive thinking works. But to attribute something to a God just because it went right is irrational, and seems a little crazy to the non-believer. And crazy people can be dangerous. Some Christians kill abortion doctors, commit suicide with their followers, attack those of a different sexual persuasion and go on gun rampages. Now most Christians don't do those things, but when they show irrational conduct, one cannot help but react as you react if you meet someone who is drunk or on drugs. It is the instinct for self-survival. The Christians could avoid this situation by keeping their explanation of their positive thinking to themselves. I suspect many are too stubborn and enjoy disturbing people with their eccentricity, so we are stuck with those who insist on thinking that "God" did it, and want to tell the world. But don't complain if people react and think you are dangerous!

It is a bit scary. And yet...I was just reading a question about students getting to skip out on biology class because it doesn't agree with their religion.
Perhaps if they actually attended that class, they would understand WHY they get sick and WHY they get better.

Actually, I KNOW why I get sick, though I am abnormally healthy. Seriously, I get sick MAYBE three times a year, at the most, and usually then only for two or three days.
Anyway, the people that you mention would be crazy no matter WHICH religion they were part of, or even if they were atheists. People will find justification for such things no matter what. Hence, why we have "Muslim" extremists, "Christian" extremists who kill abortion doctors, and the atrocities committed by Pol Pot and Stalin.
So in all truth, ALL belief systems (even the lack of one) are "dangerous" because PEOPLE are dangerous. All of those who have done horrible things to mankind and then tried to justify it have one thing in common: They were human.

True Christians do not kill people, attack people or commit mass suicide. These are not true Christians. However it is God who helps those who believe but I would not beat you over the head to get you to believe what I believe. As a Christian I may use scriptures to justify my beliefs or to make a point like 1 Corinthians 2:14 -- The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. But I do not use violence to make my point. Please do not stereo type all Christians together just like you should not say that all blacks are thugs because that is just not true!

Counting your blessings promotes good physical health, according to a study by some US doctors. Volunteers who kept weekly gratitude journals reported fewer aches and pains than those who recorded daily hassles or neutral events.
Your emotional and Spiritual health affects your physical health. And Christians are ultimately thankful to God for life's joys in the midst of painful experiences and circumstances. Are you able to do that too?

As a Christian I have to say you make an excellent point. Not all Christians fall prey to this irrational thinking, and certainly the Bible does not support it.

I don't fear Christians, I want them to butt out of everyone elses lives. And THAT is the entire problem. They couldn't butt out no matter what they do.

Nope. You fear them because of your ignorance and intolerance. It is human nature to fear those who believe differently than you do. Keep working at it, I'm sure you can overcome it if you try.
