I would think it would be fair for your boss to reimburse you for the textbooks if you are taking the course because he asked you to. Have you asked him about it? He might just not have thought about the books.

If he is paying for the class that includes any books or major purchases in supplies. If it was essential that you take the class for the job and he was willing to pay then this shouldn't be an unreasonable request. Think of it as training. All jobs pay for training. Even Jewel pays its baggers for training so should you. Just let him know if he makes it a big deal then explain how you don't have to take the class.
Hope that helps
:-)

what you're actually being asked to prove is that you intend to leave the country again after your visit, and that you're not going to stick around as an illegal immigrant ... so you're being asked to prove that you have stuff at home that you have to go back to ... and also that you've got enough money for your trip so take the questions in that context and bring stuff that proves your intentions ... chances are you might not be asked for any of it, but better safe than sorry ... definitely bring a "letter of invitation" from your cousin saying that she will provide you with free accommodation during your stay (that means that you don't have to have so much in your bank account because you don't have to pay hotel bills) and make sure this letter has her full address and telephone number on it so they can contact her if they need

you might have to ask to see what their policy is on class reimbursement... some companies will pay for the class before hand and if you fail (or low grade) you will get the bill. Some companies will pay half... but like I said you need to ask....

Well, you should have settled who was paying for the course and related expenses before signing up, but yeah, at least ask him to help pay for the book or ask if you can work some overtime to pay for it yourself.

will the course make u more valuable to the job/company/field? yes - don't worry.
the more education u have the more u can make cash and he can't take it away from u when u leave.
the 'afford' comment is one heard from folks planning on staying broke. it is an investment in you, don't be shortsighted.

GET USED TO IT. NOT BEING MEAN, BUT THE WORKPLACE HAS BASICALLY BECOME A WAR ZONE. BACKSTABBING, GOSSIPING, IS ALL FOR SABOTAGING BECAUSE JOB SECURITY IS NO LONGER.
JUST THE WHOLE MARKET (IE JOB, HOUSING) SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING. WE ARE IN A SLUMP AND UNTIL BUSH DECIDES TO STEP DOWN AS PRESIDENT EXTRAORDINAIRE (YUP, I WAS ONE OF THE TARDS THAT VOTED FOR HIM) WE WILL NOT SEE A BETTER MARKET UNTIL 2008. I WOULD STAY THERE, IGNORE THE BACKSTABBERS, AND IF YOU GET FIRED, ATLEAST YOU CAN COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT LIKE I DO. I GET TO WATCH MY SOAPS ALL DAY WHILE COLLECTING A PAYCHECK. :) LIFE IS GOOD.
A BACKSTABBER GOT ME FIRED, SO I COLLECTED UNEMPLOYMENT. :)
