Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you aren't sleeping. Here are some possible suggestions from my life experience and helping my mom try to overcome insomnia - tons of hours reading to find possibilities for her (many illnesses have caused her insomnia).
You may want to try taking melatonin. It is naturally occurring in the body, but sometimes can be disrupted. When the sun goes down, your body naturally produces melatonin. As you age, melatonin production decreases and causes you to sleep less. But, there may be something inhibiting your melatonin production now. (simplified version)
See http://www.melatonin.com/ for expanded version.
My mom tried melatonin, but the first dose was way too high. Don't get the time release capsules, and don't buy a large dose. Try taking a half a tablet first. If that doesn't work, take a little more the next night. It may take some trial and adjustment.
Are you doing something in the bright light before sleeping at night? It is suggested that you "prepare" your body for sleep by letting it know it is night. Low light in the evening, not bright. It is even suggested that sitting at a computer screen in the dark is enough to disrupt your natural clock. If you do sit at the computer screen, dim it in the evening. But, the reverse may also be true - are you not getting enough light during the day? http://www.mercola.com/2001/feb/7/insomnia_sunlight.htm
Another option, soothing tea. Warm chamomile tea has long been known for inducing rest. My 12 year old daughter likes to have chamomile tea before bed if she isn't feeling tired. She calls it her sleeping medicine. She is so active that she is just sometimes too wound up at bedtime to sleep. So, tea and a good book! Not too much sugar though.
Exercise right before bed can cause insomnia, but exercise a few hours before bed can actually help sleep. A brisk walk after supper (if supper is early enough) and then a relaxing couple of hours before bed might help.
How's your stress level? I know when I am seriously stressed, I may as well just stay up! Here is some more info: http://www.mercola.com/2001/aug/29/insomnia.htm
Here are some other possible helps from Mercola.com:
http://www.mercola.com/article/sleep.htm - general sleep help suggestions
That's about all I have to offer except the suggestion that if none of these suggestions have struck you as what may be getting in the way of sleep you should to figure out what has changed 3 days ago in your life, diet, routine that may have induced the insomnia. That may be the most important key to getting back to your normal sleep schedule.
I hope you get back to your circadian rhythm and have a good night's sleep soon!!
Best to you.

I don’t know whether you want to be suggested for the cure without medication or with the medication but I’ll suggest you something without medication as I’m never in the favor of drugs used for diseases if not necessary.
Develop a regular sleeping schedule. Avoid daytime naps and stimulating activities just before bedtime.
Avoid stimulating drugs, such as caffeine and nicotine, particularly before going to bed.
Exercise during the day (but not in the late evening).
Avoid alcohol- it is a leading cause of poor sleep.
Drink a cup of warm milk.
Mask background noise in the bedroom throughout the night.
Try using a sleep mask and ear plugs at night.
Take medications that may be stimulating long before bedtime.
Additionally, there are some behavioral techniques such as relaxation therapy, sleep restriction, reconditioning and bright-light therapy.
Relaxation therapy consists of techniques that help reduce or eliminate anxiety and body tension.
Sleep restriction is a technique that starts with a person only allowed to get a few hours sleep a night; over time the hours of sleep are increased until a more normal night's sleep is achieved.
Another treatment that may help some people with insomnia is to recondition them (reconditioning) to associate the bed and bedtime with sleep. For most people this means not using their beds for any activities other than sleep and sex.
Bright-light therapy is for people with miss-set internal clocks. In the wintertime, special commercial lights provide the necessary light exposure. People who wake too early may gain from bright-light therapy in the evening and avoiding sunlight in the morning. Experts must synchronize the time of light exposure to your body temperature, so supervision is necessary.

i had insomnia too. couldnt sleep for 5 days straight. its recurred thrice now. take ur sleeping tablets for sure. they do help. do NOT NOT try and take naps in the middle of the day even if youre so tired you think youre gonna DIE. be active. push yourself. i know most people will disagree but this worked for me. at night.. dont sleep until you feel sleepy. if you lie in bed when youre not sleepy.. youll NEVER get sleep when you have insomnia. this i know out of experience. when you finally start getting sleep. take the sleeping pills for a week. then instead of full tablets start taking half tablets for 1-2 more weeks. then u should be fine. and dont be surprised if it recurrs.also.. if you start getting sleep, but less sleep.. dont worry. everyones different. maybe your body just needs less rest. if you feel tired after that cos of apparent lack of sleep it might be psychological
