I am travelling to Australia in 1 month for 6 months, I will be travelling round the whole country, mainly on the OZ Experience bus, I was just wondering what size back pack is best to take, in litres.. I was thinking maybe 90L but have read that nothing over 65L is needed. Im confused, please help!!!

A 90L backpack is a very large backpack to travel with!

I think that a 65L backpack is large enough to travel around Australia with on your trip. A 65L backpack will be large enough to carry all your basics for travel: clothes, 2 or 3 pairs of shoes, toiletries bag, lightweight towel, compact sleeping bag and other bits and pieces, etc. If you are good at packing, you could have some room left over!

Another important point is that the size of backpacks suitable for a person can also be dependent on your size and height. A good quality backpack will have a frame that is designed for ajustment. On average a 65L pack is suitable for an average to tallish woman or a shortish man. A larger backpack, say 75L or larger will often not fit a small or average sized woman or smallish man, it just won't adjust properly to your back. This is pretty important if you are going to load it up and do a reasonable amount of walking from hotel/hostel etc. to train/bus.

I have traveled reasonably extensively on a 60L backpack and I have sold a number of backpacks to people travelling overseas on their 6 month to 1 year world trips and on average, women would generally buy a 65L pack and men would generally buy a 75L pack.

I suggest that you go into an outdoors shop and try a few backpacks on to get a better idea of how they feel and how big they are. If they are a good shop they should spend some time with you to help you out in making this decision.

Good luck and have a great trip in Oz!

65L is probably the best bet. Anything it's haeavy to carry and you wont need everything. remember you'll no doubt buy bits and pieces on the way. I work for Oz Experience and we prefer people not to travel with more than 15kgs and multiple bags because of space and weight issues. you can always have a small day pack on board the bus with you

I went for a year 10 years ago. What I took was a few shirts and trousers for work and few jeans and tops for when not at work. I also took walking boots and work shoes. I also had a sleeping bag. I took a 65L rucksack and I had space. You'll only need to consider 90L if carrying camping gear.

Take the smallest size you can fit what you want to bring in.

You will curse a backpack that is too big or too heavy daily - believe me, I've done it. Pack your pack, then go for a 2 or 3 mile walk with it on your back. Now imagine that a couple of times a week or more.

Only take what you can carry comfortably. Decide what you need to take then you can judge the size of pack you need.
I used to travel for long periods with a 30lt pack, but that didn't include any cold weather gear. Carry as little as possible - huge rucksacks are a pain.

i think that trips like this are going to tell you as little as possible is required.

maybe try aiming for something in the middle? you dont want to have to carry EVERYTHING, but you want to live more comfortable than the bare minimum. try 75/80L sized backpack?

but... if youre there for so long ... you MAY want to carry a lot more. so the 90L might not be a bad idea.

in case you do not examine a bag, you will desire to hold all your toiletries in a plastic bag. circulate to the TSA internet site to get the standards. i'm speaking approximately toothpaste, hair gel, suntan lotion (any liquid, cream or gel). there is likewise a length restrict of (i've got faith a million-2 oz.). that's why I examine bags. not truly somewhat worth the worry to circulate in the process the nonsense to handle the TSA
