that would be useful.

I am not at all interested in special forces and Buffy Ninja type stuff.
But I think it could be very profitable for dad & daughter to take tai chi or karate together. Girls are not taught self-defense in the USA, and they should. Add that to quality time with daddy, and it sounds like a winner.

P.S. My daughter, 21 has been swimming since age 8. She can make it to the top of the rock climber, using the right colored handholds, faster than her 6' tall bf can get to the top holding any handholds he can reach. Swimming=Strong arms, legs, abs.

It's a WONDERFUL question.
It's our responsibility to teach our children self-reliance and enable them to be strong and confident.
If we continue protecting them, they only learn that WE are competent and go into the world afraid and with no self esteem. Take it from someone who has struggled all my life to find my independence and my own sense of power and abilities.
My own son teaches Karate to youngsters and you should see the difference in the attitudes of young people who have that kind of confidence. It's amazing.

While I don't agree with all of your suggestions, I do agree in general that is it better to teach a girl self defense than to try to shelter her.
The best preparation is to love your daughter, help build her confidence and self-esteem. If she does not appear to be an "easy target" she is less likely to be in a situation where she needs to physically defend herself. Knowing some basic self defense moves is helpful, but it's even better to know them and never need to put them to use.

Because Dads don't want to get beat up by thier daughters!
;)
I think that teaching self defense is a good idea, but Dads will always be overprotective!

A lot of dads teach their daughters self defense. Parents have to be protective of their children, that is what we are there for.

as nice as that suggestion is, most fathers would just rather tell their kids no then shell out money to teach them. Or they may do both, shell out the cash, but still tell them no.
