Was fired last year after a decade of stellar reviews. Boss made up insane reason to let me go but he is a hostile mean SOB. I just don't want to start over at the bottom again. The job market in my field is ugly as I have had zero success. Plus, I am battling age discrimination since I am in my 40s. I feel like I am so nice that I get trampled on. All I ever wanted was for people to like and respect me. I am a decent guy with lots and lots of bad luck.

Seriously, I never had one write up. The excuse he made was that I leaked private info out but it was not true at all, then he said "It is just business". He probably got a bonus for cutting costs. I am just sick and tired of this World and the way it works.

I can sympathise with you. At the risk of being considered having adopted a "sour grapes" attitude I would like to put forth the idea that the modern(?) emphasis in our culture on "success" and personal worth based on material value may be wrong. But it seems that those who have adopted selfish values in our workplace are more likely to be rewarded with advancement than those who are "nice guys." Starting over at the "bottom" may not be all that bad.

My father died happily as a financially solvent home owner after a life working as a laborer. He only had an 8th grade education. We always had enough food and clothes but never any of the frills that other more "succesful" families had but this was compensated for by our being a close loving family. I look at the "dog eat dog, rat race" these other successes lead (and how it spills over into their home life) to get to their exalted positions and I know who was the happier.

I don't get tired of "everything" just the chimera of success that our culture foists on us, because I know there are a lot of happy "poor people" in our society. where people like and respect one another. I am not advising giving up your carreer and experience to take a menial job just to change your thinking wherein you realize that "Hostile mean SOB of a Boss" has to live with the knowledge he did a dirty thing to another person in order to get ahead. He has to live with his adopted mean values where you can be more happy and secure holding "decent values."

Good luck (there are alot like you out there), good health, peace and love!

what was the reason that SOB made to let u go? a DECADE worth of stellar reviews and u got let go just cos of one lousy miserable reason? there has gotta be more to it. fight back!! get the higher-ups to bite ur boss back in the bum! get ur colleagues to fight back for you, write anonymous letters to hte president and what-not!!

ppl suck, really. those who make full-use of nice ppl like you, as stepping-stones, and then trample u in the mud once they'r at teh top.
