many things increase the risk of getting cancer in the diet: the important thing is to be balanced. There is an assciation between spicy food and oral and oesophageal cancer as well as gastric cancer but the odd spicey meal will not kill you.

To avoid cancer as best you can you ought to:

1. not smoke.
2. Eat a balanced diet with lots of fibre
3. Exercise

No way!! In fact, recent studies have shown that tumeric which is in curry cuts brain plaque by more than half. Spicy foods speed up your metabolism. Very good for you, most spicy things are healthy. Chili is good for you as long as you go lite on the cheese.

Not as far as I know! I love spice foods.
If you listened to everything in the media about what to eat and not to eat then you'd have a very limited diet. Eating a varied & balanced diet with a few treats every now & again don't do anyone any harm as far as I'm concerned.

* "Spicy food is bad" - Asian medical theory
* "Cayenne peppers are health-promoting" - Traditional naturopathy

All food theories contradict each other in one way or another.

I have never heard that, and actually I have heard that eating chilies is good for people with ulcers, because of the acid that can help kill the bacteria that cause ulcers.
