I have read it twice, I think it's a great read, But it might be hard for some Christians to fully understand. Dawkins uses a lot of "Scientific" words. Science is not known to your average American Christian so when he uses some words they get confused and upset so they throw the book down and start praying for guidance. It's almost as if the book was written entirely in Chinese

Edit: Atheism isn't a religon and dragonlordals is a fake. he made that perfectly clear when he answered your question.

Seems to be the season for best-selling books about atheism. "The God Delusion" is solid and to the point, which offends some of the religious. And Dawkins certainly has the credentials. For someone just coming to the array, you might begin with Sam Harris' "Letters to a Christian Nation." It's American but apt to be on bookstore shelves in other English-speaking countries by now. Only this weekend I read David Mills' "Atheist Universe," which, I think, is more "accessible" than Professor Dawkins' book.

I like the part in the book where Dawkins talks about how he became an atheist. He was sitting in his apartment (eating some Jello pudding) when he got up to get some more Jello pudding from the refrigerator and he realized that someone had stolen it all. This is when he lost all faith.

This is also why I keep at least a three month supply of Jello pudding on me at all times. I rent a U-Haul truck and have movers carry the crates into my room.

Kids these days listen to the rap music and don't understand jazz or Kodak film.

Yes. I really enjoyed it. Dawkins' strength is making the case for the validity of evolution and for the naturalistic world view. He brilliantly cuts into creationism and exposes it for the sham that it is.

Dawkins nails the coffin shut on creationism by showing why natural selection does not produce random accidents, and that ID is not the logical alternative to "chance" its proponents claim it to be.

His weak suit is his treatment of spirituality in general. He goes too far in condemning even liberal religiosity as being fertile ground for dangerous fanaticism.

Dawkins does makes a great point that the "lukewarm" position of agnosticism is the weakest one in the "God Debate".

The God Delusion did tip me over to atheism and back to Zen philosophy.

Dragonlordals you are the type of Atheist I like; sincere and honest and willing to call a spade a spade. You are respected.
The guy (Dawkins) forms an opinion of God over a can of stolen jello? Like forming a negative opinion about your principal because someone stole from your locker.

You are not likely to get a devout Christian to read that book, and if they do they will not see it for what it is but rather as a Demonic book. I am sure some people who post to this will say that exact thing with never having read the book.

I'm an atheist, I read it, I'm still an atheist. I thought it was decent. It's basically arguments I've heard before and he is a bit caustic... AND a bit scattered... but he isn't wrong. I just don't know how effective he'll be in dispatching the delusions of the religious.

you know....you have your "born spiritual" people and you have those who find it....but usually once you find it, it cannot be unfound, unless of course you are part of a brain washing cult......

many people in western society refer to the christian god as the only reference to religion.....

christianity...? HA!

its the youngest out of all the old religions, its teachings are important.....but insignificant compared to the teachings of the eastern religious traditions.

People are bent on finding the truth of god here in the west, bent on destroying spirit with the use of fact....

but the only fact is, that the people who read these writings, are PAYING MONEY for it, and this is the most over-riding force...even behind the biggest religion today....good ol christianity!
