What do parents have to gain by having their children love, respect and obey them? Why would parents care?
Obviously God is bigger than that and can get along very nicely without us, we need him but he doesn't need us.
He created us because he could and it pleased him to make an entire universe for us and make man the pinnacle of his creation.
It also pleases him if we love him of our own free will which is why he gave us the choice.
While we are not pets in any sense of the word, don't many of us choose to share our lives with a pet and does it not please us if it reciprocates the love we shower on it?
Do not humans get pleasure from making beautiful artworks or creating a nice garden or raising a beautiful family. We don't need those things and we don't have to do them but we do get a measure of satisfaction in being able to do them.
Why do we seek to deny such simple pleasures to our Heavenly Father?

Because He is our creator. He is good, so i praise Him willfully.and to answer the second part of your question. People dont understand this, but he had similar characteristics as us(since we were made in His image),he feels sadness, and joy, . He cares about you for the same reason your mom and dad (being bad) can love you, how much more will He who is good love us and desire to be close to us. What God will gain from these things is joy. If you had a son or daughter that you loved more than anything, wouldnt you want him/her to love you back? even if you were a billionaire ? David wrote in the bible "what is man that thou are mindful of him?"

Why would God need or want us to worship, obey and love him?
The God I know, does not need anyone, and doesent need anyone to worship him, satan wants them to not understand God, we see here in the post he does well, but God has a plan and satans in it, like us all are.. some by christ, the rest by fire.. all repent ,, and see the true God that many never see..
yup many prove it today,, the system of human thinking ends in death.. then fire.

Amazing question...
I think it works like this.
We have children and we expect them too _____.
Fill in the blank.
If that doesn't happen then what?
If it does then what?
Most likely the one that meets expectations gets better treatment and are easier to deal with.
The one that doesn't gets some help but is not treated with the same attention and possibly gets neglected.
As the old saying goes. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. What happens to the horse, I don't know.

peace be upon you
if someone give you a car , home , present or anything whatever of high or little value , what will u say to him?
will u say thank you ?
What about the God ?
the God create you ,give you your eyes ,your heart . the God create this world for you and make the world and its contents ( water _air_animals_plants) under your service.
none can calculate the God gifts to us.
And you see yourself greater than worshipping the God.
Are you agree with yourself?

You are right in saying 'need or want'. Because He needs nothing.
If you had a kid, and you were attending Open House at school, and your kid stood up without prompting and told everyone there what a great parent you were, how would you feel? Proud? Happy to tears? Love?
I think it's like that.

Religion is not about the actuality of God.
It is about the effect of faith on man.
It is unlikely anything like God would require praise. But praising God for his creation makes men grateful for what they have.
Call me a sentimental Agnostic, but I think that's a good thing.

What you think has been thought for centuries and it's a way of life. One of the misteries of the nature of the Christian's God is that: He doen't ask us for Love: He wants us to love each other, because that's the right thing to do and that's pretty much it. Think. If we all loved each other all would be harmony. That's what God really wants, if we think of Him as infinitely good, don't you think?

If we were created for the expressed purpose of worshiping him, then I would think that it be of paramount importance that we do worship him. He gains the satisfaction of knowing that his creation is doing what it is intended to do.
