Well, I'm not exactly a religion expert, but last thing I checked it was still around. In case you've been living under a rock, religion is in the venacular of politics everyday (neocons will deny that), there's religous extremists all over (and of all faiths) killing and conspiring in the name of their god. That being said, I think religion and faith (of any denomination) is a worthy and virtuous pursuit. We get into problems with it when people try to impose their beliefs on everybody else. Religion has inspired some great feats for mankind, including art, architecture, and many technological advances. There's been some bad ones too, like crusades, witch trials, and the impedence or killing of progressive science (like the theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun).
I draw much of my inspiration from good people I come in contact with every day. I believe that you shape yourself with the people you surround yourself with; conciously or not. So I strive to emulate the good I see in people.

Oh religion is still living and rational people haven't abandoned God because he is not a fantasy. I'm not religious but I claim myself with the Holy Spirit and very Spiritually ALIVE. My inspirations come from reading the bible and meeting people that are eager to know more about the bible and God.
God Bless You.

Whenever I look around and see all the really incredible things that humans have created through their own intelligence and curiosity. Hell, even walking into a large building is an interesting experience for me at times - I find it amazing that our smelly, hairy, constantly fighting species has been able to do what it has given the short amount of time we've been around.
I'm inspired by humanity, by what we have accomplished and learned, and by the thought of what we'll continue to accomplish and learn, provided we don't kill ourselves off entirely in the process.

Since you're inspired by "learning as much as you can," allow me to enlighten you that many, many rational, scientific people of a much higher caliber than yourself believe and have believed in God, in one form or another.
I, too, am inspired by music. I particularly like "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."
P.S. Arily: one time my car ran out of gas on the expressway. It died. I prayed that somehow God would allow me to back up along the shoulder to the last exit a mile away, so my husband would be spared the long, subzero hike back to the car.
Guess what my car ran on then. (Hint: I made it all the way back in reverse, without the car so much as hiccupping.)
PPS: No_bloody_id's... "God delusion..." gee, THAT'S original. Nobody ever made THAT clever little remark before...

When did religion die ? Not in my world, you live a very sad existence if that is how you feel. I can't believe you think rational people don't believe in the Lord. It's funny how Christians get bashed for their beliefs but If I sad atheist were irrational I would be a close minded Christian bigot.
Heartfelt atheist: you are a bit of a hypocrite, I looked at your profile and your questions, anyone can check this out but you asked why God hates the Gulf coast so much ? If he doesn't exist why would you ask that ?

I'll second both . And add that your car won't run on god it requires gas. But whether you fill it honorably or not is of the greatest importance for we are all personally responsible for the morality that guides us through the material world in which we live . Honor is guidance that should decide how we conduct ourselves in the material world. why not make a religion of that instead of superstitious religions.
peace, freedom to play music and learn .
