im 16 and want to go vsit my friend in michigan, ive never taken a plane. do i need a california id? or can i travel with my student id? please help!

Yeah, you can use your student ID to travel within the US. Your student ID probably has a portrait of you and your first and last name. I have traveled within the US using my school ID before and nobody said anything. Of course, your school ID has to be vaild.
When you get your drivers license, use that for ID purposes when you travel within the country. Dont use your school ID when you get your drivers license.
