Someone recently posted a queston about miscarrying her baby and asked for some information on the subject. Many answers were heartwarming, expressed sorrow, well wishing, truthful and comforting answers. Yet some gave these answers a thumbs down rating. A person in pain reachs out to others, are given helpful words of comfort, and some rate these answers as being poor. This is just one example. There are many like it. Why? Why are there such fools on this site? Why offer such a rating? Yeah, I know it's a free country, freedom of speech, and all that stuff, but why be so childish? Are people really that hartless, insincere, and spineless?

There are three reasons why, I think, a person usually gives a "thumb down".
1. They don't agree with the answer
2. They don't like the answerer
3. The answer was not legible or was offensive or rude
Any one of these reasons could explain any "thumb down".No matter how sincere or heart warming an answer might be, there is always a reason why a person would give a "thumb down".The question is, what does it matter in the grand scheme of things whether or not someone gives a "thumb up or down"?Sure, we all want to be validated.But when we aren't, why should we allow it to matter?

I myself agree 100% with what you just said...I do not understand some people..I truly believe that there are people who just look at the persons religion (or are familiar with them) OR non-religion and automatically give a thumbs down for no reason..I have had this happen to me on non-opinion questions and I just personally don't get it either.

A thumbs is actually a thumbs up. It means your answer hit a soft spot on the thumber.

THANKYOU for posting this! I completely agree with what you're saying. Some people are so childish. When someone gives a really nice answer there's always some idiot who will come and give it a thumbs down rating. It really annoys me how childish they can be.

Is it that big of a deal? they are just little thumb symbols they dont profoundly effect our lives or anything.
