They had a story about this in the Army Times and Stars and Stripes a while back, had pictures of people flashing gang signs in military photos and the like. With the exception of MS-13 there is no proof that it was actually happening, mainly it's a bunch of posers trying to look cool in photos
According to the articles, they aren't active in the gang while serving, they go for the groundpounding jobs like infantry so they can get training on weapons.
Personally I'm sick and tired of all these pansy rappers shouting "I'm a gangsta soldier" in their rap videos when the worst thing they've seen is a gang shooting, try surviving a firefight in Sadr then call yourself a soldier.
Additionally, when you go to MEPs, they examine all your tattoos and track you if you have a common gang tatt (they don't tell you about that one).

There was actually a news story done on this before, I'm not sure of the dates, but they had interviewed a few former military members who had gang affiliations that openly admitted that their reason for joining was to learn tactics to use against rival gangs. Keep in mind it was a very very small percentage, and also a majority of them who had joined for that purpose had straightened out and realized the err of their ways once they completed most of the training.

They get discipline and a work ethic, and maybe a permanent career with benefits and retirement.
The military has done much to inadvertently reduce crime on our streets by giving young gang members "a way out."

There is no evidence of former gang members coming home after serving and using their soldiering skills to further the goals of their former gang or any other gang.
This doesn't mean that none of them get involved in criminal activity once they return home. Those that do tend to go independent.

You're not allowed to be in a gang while in the military anyway, it's considered an extremist organization, punishable by of course a dishonorable discharge and federal jail time. I was raised around gangs, and a real gang member won't deny his affiliation, which means they couldn't get into the military, unless they lied about it, which eventually they would be discovered anyway.

valuable in the event that they might get alongside. I do in basic terms not see dumb skinheads, malitia dummies or the dumb kkk as all getting alongside. those gang contributors have a undesirable record of chaos and the lack to get alongside with all and sundry, not even them own selves.

I say if they are so eager to shoot and kill, let them go to another country and do it! Bet not many of them would be so eager when they get shot at over in Iraq, instead of shooting innocent unarmed people on the street in the US!
