I'm wanting to get a realistic, color tattoo of a momma giraffe and a baby giraffe. Im wanting to get it on my right side of my tummy about three inches to the right of my belly button and going around my right side and ending before my back. i want it to go from where my boobs end and my tummy begins to the middle of my hip. I was thinking maybe African scenery in the background but I'm not sure it would look good. (im aware its big lol, but thats what i want.)
it symbolizes my rough childhood. I always loved giraffes and I always wanted to see one, but my momma struggled & never had enough money to take the family anywhere. She really tried so hard though.. but we could just never get a break.
I had never left the area im from until I got older. I still have yet to see a giraffe and theres so much of the world I want to see. Especially Africa.
Sorry if that was sappy. Hah. Im just trying to give you a feel of the sentimental value of this tattoo.
Tell me what ya think =]

Pain doesn't bother me.
Mind over matter!
But good note about the pregnancy thing.. I was debating on my back or my side for the longest time and I think I just made up my mind.
Back for sure. Hah.

I already know who I want to do it.
There is a renowned artist that is only 2 hours away from me.

I agree with the previous poster on the location. If you are planning on having children or gaining/losing weight around your midsection, then you probably don't want one on your tummy. There are plenty of women who had dolphins around their belly buttons before they were pregnant wind up as humpback whales afterwards! :-)
Also, go around to many different shops, ask to see their work. If they are good, you will be able to tell. Talk to some customers and see if they are happy with their tats. Do your research and you won't be disappointed.
You can spend as much as you want for tattoos, and since it is going to be with you forever and symbolizes something very personal to you, I wouldn't skimp on the price.
Three things you don't skimp on....tattoos, TP, and peanut butter!
Hope this helps! :-)

To get an accurate price go to artists in person or call them. On the net you wont get anything more than opinions. Price depends on the artist, time, size, color, everything. The bigger or more detailed it is the more it will cost. Look around for an artist you like and be willing to pay their price when you find the one you want, you pay for what you get. Good luck, it sounds great!
-Okay, you've done the big part, you found the artist. Now ask him/her and pay their price. Location is a big thing, if you want kids don't do your belly or hips ... you'll have to have it fixed more than likely after pregnancy with that area. Back, legs, shoulders are good areas. They don't stretch very much if at all when you get pregnant. Talk to your artist about the positioning on your body when you establish a draw up with him. Easier to judge how it will fit.

I think it sounds great - I love giraffes too - every time we go to the zoo I will use an entire roll of film taking pictures of the giraffes.
You may want to consider moving that tattoo to your back or thigh if you are planning to have kids some day - pregnancy is pretty rough on tattoos anywhere on or near your stomach.
N2jazz forgot the fourth thing - laundry soap. :)
**When you go into a shop ask them if they have someone that does portrait work - if you want real looking giraffes, that is the sort of artist you need. I think most artists will be honest about their ability to do portrait work - make sure they show you plenty of samples of their work.

it has be answered many times by all these people yet princess explained it in a long detail and AA explained it in a simplified short answer and here is the thing look back at your life, since you were a kid, till where you stand right now imagine your were ignorant all that you will lose from that time to this and to the future that is your cost, the cost of your ignorance ( not calling you ignorant, just making an example ) then think however of the gain of ignorance then compare both gains and YOU tell me which is the costly one

I like the idea--great choice! I was thinking a similar thing for myself...but with camels. Keeping it real tho: the meaning/symbolism thing sounds kinda b.s. You don't need to justify tattoo art with a sappy song and dance; it is what it is. As for price...since you're thinking big...you should know by now that if you really have to ask about price then there's a chance you wont be getting this. Just pick the right tattooer and pay whatever s/he asks.

It sounds like that means a lot to you, so go for it. Just research the artist and make sure they're qualified to do a tattoo of sorts. And just so you know, the area you chose is a VERY sensitive area, so prepare for it to be pretty darn uncomfortable. Good luck to you.

You'd have to find a really good tattoo artist, and it will be fairly expensive. I had a tattoo on my lower back with minimal color, and it was over $200. The art of tattoes is not cheap, and yes, it will cost you. Good luck though.

sounds good - and meaningful, something you've thought through.
re price - only tattoo artists can give you an accurate price - if you've found a good one, go and talk to him - he'll be able to draw up a design for you, and give you a price and time estimate for it
