I think I will be 83 and cranky, sassy while being unbearable to live with.

I'm 43 now, and I think I might have another 20 years at best. I know that seems like a really young age, but I have reasons for believing this.

I'm the youngest in my family, but I've also aged the fastest. My 57-year old sister seems 20 years younger than me. I don't look old. I can still pass for 35, but I feel old. That's because I've inherited auto-immune disorders from both sides of my family, and they are not under control.

My oldest sister and I both have rheumatoid arthritis. She has been ill longer, but is able to work, ride motorcycles, run, and do so many other activities. I have been ill not quite three years, and my disease has progressed so much more rapidly than hers. I can no longer work, am on disability, struggle with stairs, can't sit on the floor, and do so many other things that she does with ease. She is rarely in pain, but I never have a comfortable moment.

Aside from the RA, I have fibromyalgia and palindromic rheumatism. The latter is so incredibly painful that when I get a flare-up, I seriously contemplate lopping off the afffected limb so that it will never bother me again. I've had ambulances come in the middle of the night to take me away, because the pain and swelling becomes so awful that I'm like a wild woman. I then spend days hospitalized until they can do something for me. Not even morphine works when I hurt that badly.

I also take chemotherapy once a week to help control my diseases. It works by shutting down my immune system. This leaves me susceptible to every bug that comes my way, so it seems as if I am always sick.

All of my meds put me at risk for osteoporosis, liver and kidney damage, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, stroke, etc. The treatment is almost worse than the diseases.

I try to keep a positive outlook, and I do pretty well. I don't suffer any form of depression, but I've come to the conclusion that about 20 more years of this is really all that I want. That will give me enough time to see my kids grown and married, and maybe some grandchildren. In 20 years, I could easily be so disabled that I'll require care, and I don't ever want to be a burden.

Of course, there is always the possibility that my diseases will come under control, or better yet, go into remission. If that should happen, then I would want to live to see 100, and I would savor every moment.

If I can make it to 105, I'll stand a good chance of making it to 150 with developing life-extension technologies. If I can make it to 150, then the 300-400 year range comes into play with advancements in nanotechnology. I'd like to live at least 10,000 years . . . it will probably take me that long to see all I want to see.

My paternal grandmother lived to her late 80's
My father is still alive (I think).. if so, he's 76
My maternal grandfather lived to 78. However, most of his family died young (40's and 50's) from heart attacks. It's what got him in the end too, but he took good care of himself.
My maternal grandmother is still alive at 82, and in excellent health. Her mother died young, but it was self-inflicted. Her father lived into his 60's and was hit by a car.
My mother is 60 and is doing great.

If we average these numbers out.. let's see...... 73

I often say, at nearly 35, that I've lived half my life. 73 comes pretty close :) My guess is it will be a heart attack.

I took a test you can take if you google the question "how long will I live?" something like that.

It told me I will live to be 98! Cool! I might have made it to 102 except I drink 3 big cups of coffee every day. Oh well.

If only I could still look young and cute too...

Hey, 83 sounds good to me. We can still log on to R & S and talk to each other TTC. Wonder who else will still come here and talk to us? BB, Kayne, Mama, Jack, Ramjet, Eagle Woman, and all the others? Maybe we'll have to move to the Senior Citizens section then. We'll liven that place up with bran muffins & pirate stories! LOL hee hee hee

(((TTC)))

Course, I have to live to be at least 86--I'm getting married some time after that. BB is counting on me, and I can't let that sweet man down!

I don't mind living to an old age if i still have my health and strength but i would rather die younger than live old and have no quality of life.

Hopefully though i will last till at least in my 80s and still be healthy.

Well... my motto is "Life fast, love hard, and die young and leave a beautiful memory".

So I never planned on living a long time. But the time I do have I am a fixing to enjoy it as much as I can.

I think somewhere around 90 to 100 considering our current medical advances and possibilities of the future.

I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I can see myself dying alone.

I need to live at least until I am 105. I have promised some nieces and nephews that I would be a pall bearer for them when they died.
