Is there widespread agreement about this?

For example:
What is it?
Is it supernatural?
How do you know you have one?
Does it interact with the brain?
If so, how?
If not, why do you consider it relevant?
Etc.

The Buddha regarded soul-speculation as useless and illusory. He said, "Only through ignorance and delusion do men indulge in the dream that their souls are separate and self-existing entities. Their heart still clings to Self. They are anxious about heaven and they seek the pleasure of Self in heaven. Thus they cannot see the bliss of righteousness and the immortality of truth. Selfish ideas appear in man's mind due to his conception of Self and craving for existence."

The general belief regarding the soul? Well, let's see. The universal agreement for most is that it is a "supernatrual" part us that is the only way of speaking to and hearing God. For me personally, my soul is the deep "gut feeling" I have about something or someone. It is God's way of talking to me through my soul.

The soul is a heavenly body originally. Contaminated by sin and given physical form to suffer the consequences of that sin.
