I wouldn't say BluRay is replacing DvDs just yet. It is currently a strong competitor vying for control of the high def market. As it stands neither BluRay or HD DVD have really managed anything spectacular.

As for the future, I don't see a clear winner between the two and downloaded movies and content being the next big thing (it's already almost there between services like NetFlix, XBOX Live, iTunes etc)

Sony and Disney both may have made a huge mistake in putting all their eggs in one basket. What happened with the Paramount / HD - DVD deal last week is something that Blu Ray needed, even though they were leading in over-all disc sales. It's too early to predict what'll happen since over-all sales for both HDDVD and BR camps is still minuscule compared to standard DVD. But nevertheless, the paramount deal speaks volumes, because their point of contention pertains to how HD DVD pretty much has complete specs, while BR is still working out the kinks with BD Java, and how it all comes down to price which is currently in favor of the HD DVD camp. BR has had more than a year to get BD Java ready to go, but still haven't. HD DVD menu navigation and interactivity is here now, and worth the look if you have a chance. It'll be along while before another technology tries to penetrate the current market. Downloadable media may be the wave of the future, but that'll be waaaaay in the future. Too many people are still using and are content with dial-up. So i can't see how downloadable media will suddenly be a major threat to DVD, HD DVD, or BluRay.

How about getting BluRay down in price and getting more than a few thousand HD TV's out there to look at them?

An indian company has created 1 terabyte disks the same size as blu-ray disks (and blu-ray only holds 50gigs). For the record, there are 1000gigs in 1 terabyte. And they plan to have a 5 terabyte disk out within 3 years.

provided that blu-ray gamers are backwards like minded with DVDs, I have not got any plans to ashcan my DVD sequence. And as for digital distribution, I have not got any objective of having all of my video clips on a not easycontinual which could fail and ship all of them to information heaven.
