I live in NY state and i'd like to buy a used police camaro to save money. Where/what web site can I use to find ones in NY?

Also, is it possible to find an engine/tranny in a junkyard to put in the car if the motor has gone bad? How much would this cost?

Thank you.

Not sure why you want a police Camaro...a car that some cop has most likely treated like anyone would a rental car. After all, the cop does not own the car.

If you want this car because you think the performance and suspension mods will suit your needs best...well, you would be better off buying a non-police camaro and doing your own mods. I would guess that the government does not get the highest quality from the lowest bidder..

But if you are still dead set on getting a police camaro, then listen to the answers above me.

As for getting a motor and tranny at a junk yard., While that could be a good option if you know how to install everything yourself and can locate low mileage motor and trans..your best bet in that area would be to purchase a crate motor from GM and have that installed by GM techs. The tranny, you could probably locate a used one and have it installed much cheaper than a new one..but if it was me, I would go with a crate motor and new tranny with shift kit if automatic..but I would have a manual.

good luck

go to the station and ask one of the mechanics if he / she knows where to get a used car or ask one of the public reps for assistance------ engine and Tanny's can be bought at the junkyard, but they are "questionable" at best

I seriously consider looking in classifieds before buying a used cop car----- they are abused 99% of time

Look for state vehicle auctions or used car auctions or dealers maybe---engine/trans swap could run 2-3000.00 or more. Call the highway patrol and ask them where the cars get sold when their service life is up.

Usually you can go to any police station in your area. And ask them where they auction their cars. They will give you a website and place where they auction their cars. That's how i bought me a police interceptor.
