No soap doesn't work the same as shampoo in alkaline water. Soap usually leaves a film. Shampoos are made from detergents designed to rinse out better than soap & have special additives to leave hair smooth.

Using soap in your hair does not work the same as using shampoo. As a matter of fact using soap on your hair could possibly do your hair more harm than good, the reason being is that most commercial soaps contain wax in them which is used to hold the soap together. After using soap on your hair for a period of time the wax in the soap product will start to build up on your hair and cause your hair to become dry, dull, and damaged. As a hairstylist, my recommendation would be to ask a stylist which shampoo would best be suited for your hair type and tell your friend if she is using soap on her hair daily she might want to stop using soap and invest in a clairifying shampoo for starters to remove the build-up from her hair and then when she goes to get a haircut ask the stylist what shampoo would best be suited for her hair type.

My Gosh, NO! Soap is just that - soap! Bar soap will turn your hair into straw!
Shampoo is made with detergent, and other ingredients meant to make your hair MORE managable, not less.
If you have a choice of bar soap or shampoo, buy shampoo- it cleans your body very well!
