Microsoft is always getting sued for monopoly, but why isn't Apple? The iphone is monopolized by at&t, thier computers come with ready made software like the photoeditors and video editors and the safari, why doesn't corel and the others sue them for that?

You probably guessed I'm a windows user by now.
Oh, and does anyone think that the guy from the apple adversitements looks like an unemployed-living-on-his-parents-couch-lazy-badly-dressed excuse for a cool person.

Puhlease
I think windows has already been sued by corel, adobe, real and the others, what i'm asking is why doesn't apple?
Anyway, someone has already explained the thing to me, not that i agree, but i understand.
Also, what's wrong with wearing glasses? Is it uncool to have visual problems? And who says that's what a windows is like, anyway? Windows can do a lot more stuff than the mac, which they realized and started changing thier computers to run windows.
I'm sorry to get so antsy but those advertisements get me so riled up!

I don't believe the IPhone is monopolized by At&T. Like for instance nextel only uses Motorola phones. If everyone else stopped using them would you say that that Nextel is monopolizing Motorola? And as to the other stuff, you can always download other software so that you don't have to use an Apple product. Like I use Firefox because I despise IE. But I'm forced to Windows XP because I stupidly bought a Dell computer.

The problem with Microsoft, is that you can't buy a PC without having to use one of their products. Dell, HP whatever. When you buy a Mac which is made by Apple you have to use their products. See the difference? There are no Microsoft computers. There are companies that use Microsoft operating systems. The Microsoft monopoly is not the computers themselves but the operating systems.

You can't sue a company for using their own operating systems and products on one of their own computers. If you buy a MAC then you're stuck with Apple. It's like buying a Chevy and complaining that there are Chevy brand tires and a Chevy brand engine in it. Then suing because they don't come with Subaru brand tires instead. (This is just a silly example obviously)

As you can probably guess I'm a dissatisfied windows user.

You have got to be kidding me.... dude, Apple Mac OS X has about 6-7% of the computer market share compared to Windoze.

Also, the iLife suite of software is ONLY for Mac. If it ran on Windoze and practically everyone was using that software it could be considered a monopoly. In this case, only Apple computers use the software. People still have a choice in the software they use.

So your reasoning makes no sense whatsoever.

We could turn this around and say, why doesn't Mozilla sue Microsoft for the use of Internet Explorer on PC's. Or why doesn't Real Media sue Microsoft for the use of Windows media player. Or Corel sue Microsoft because of the use of Office compared to Wordperfect.

And that cool person, looks better than that 4 eyes dork they use for PC anytime of the day.

PS: The iPhone is not monopolized by AT&T, the other wireless providers had the opportunity to offer the phone. They decided not to because of the contract they had to sign with Apple. AT&T was the only provider with balls to sign the contract and it'll be very fruitful for them.

You don't seem to understand the concept of a monopoly.

Here's the definition:
monopoly |məˈnäpəlē| noun ( pl. -lies) 1 the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service.

I don't think you understand how things work in business too well, do you?

If you figure people should sue Apple for supplying AT&T exclusively with the iPhone, then we should all sue LG for having given Verizon exclusive rights to the LG Chocolate phone. Sound a bit crazy? Yeah, so does your logic here.

And since when was it a crime to have software that was usable and ready to go when you buy the computer, rather than going out and spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on new software (Or being a douchebag and downloading it off of a pirate site), that works just as well as comparable products, and is built for one OS only, much as a lot of Corel and Adobe's products are built strictly for Windows OS'es.

Just because Mac has managed to make a stable OS and include everything you could need for a fairly reasonable price for the non-cheapass who uses his rig for more than internet porn and gaming, doesn't mean it's inferior. It just means that they're smarter businessmen who know what their customer base wants, and will do what it takes to keep them.

Oh, and have fun with Vista, since I'm sure you joined the sheeple and bought it on release day. Provided it doesn't crash while you're trying to read this.

Hi from Germany,

it`s not even sure that the iPhone will be AT&T branded here; it's supposed to be by Deutsche Telekom (or maybe Vodafone, if they win the race). What's it going to be in Australia? Telstra? And why, and that is my question to all the Apple users out there, didn't anyone sue Jobs for Mac os ten?

edit:
> think windows has already been sued by corel, adobe, real and the others, what i'm asking is why doesn't apple?

Ever tried to sue a tiger? Forget it. You can sue companies, but not computer operating systems.

There's a saying in my country that one crow doesn't hack the other one's eye. ("Eine Krähe hackt der anderen kein Auge aus.") So do they. If you like, you can watch the movie "Pirates of Silicon Valley" on Google Video. Very enlightnening. Download it before it's gone.

I'm on Windows (NT 5.1) and Firefox, and yes, I feel pretty good...

And as to mobiles, my SonyEricsson will do for another while. At least, I can switch providers.

Apple has been sued by many different companies, usually for trademark infringement. As far as why it doesn't get sued for bundling applications is because the applications are not integrated into the operating system. You can operate an apple without safari, for example. The same can not really be said for Windows and IE.

The iPhone has been hacked and can run on other Cell providers. But the fact that there are many alternatives to the iPhone that run on other networks ,means there is no monopoly... just a shrewd contractual engagement between apple and at&t

Actually, they do get sued, but not as much.

For instance, they are being sued for the iPhone. *shock* Yes, they are being sued for it already. It's because of the battery on it.

And they do get sued when they step out of line, but it isn't as widely pressed as other issues, such as with Microsoft. Basically, the government and all other people target Microsoft because it is so big. These people and the government target the biggest guys and then hope that the smaller guys (apple) will get the hint.

If they don't get it, they too will be sued.

And also, Apple has been in a few lawsuits over the ipod and some copyright issues that pertain to it.

All in all, you see Microsoft as the one with all of the lawsuits, but that's because a company with a huge share of any market will be sued continuously no matter what.

Well, AT&T is set as the excluseive provider, but it happends in the Cell phone market all the time, IE - The Katana is for Sprint Only, The LG Chocolate is for Verizon Only, etc

As far As the guy in the apple adversitements, I could not agree more, at least the microsoft guy looks like he is married and living the american dream
