It's common for Pyrs to sleep in the day and stand guard at night. They survey their territory to protect the flock all night long. Could that be what this behavior is? Perhaps he feel unsure and unsafe in this new territory and needs to "protect" his flock from unknown smells and possible intruders.

When I moved my dog (a heeler-border collie mix) from Connecticut to California, it was very stressfull for her. We moved in August and she did adjust after a couple of weeks. She was the last thing I took out of my house when I made the trip and she travelled on the plane in a crate with the luggage. She really started to freak (yelping and crying like crazy) when I took the last suitcase out of the house and she was still in the house. She was better on the trip. She peed on the floor of the new house before I could get her to the backyard. I was fast, she was faster. She calmed down after an hour or so in the new home, which had a nice fenced in backyard. In the evenings I left the screen door open wide enough so she could go in and out. She loved the backyard and would get up and go out on her own while I was watching TV. She would go out for a couple of minutes, then return (like she was checking to make sure I was still there and in the same place) then go out again, come back for a few then go out again. Gradually (over about a 3 week period) she spent less time inside on the floor by me and more time out in the back yard. Life was good.

If your dog doesn't calm down or appear to be calming down and adjusting, then see a vet.

If pets are a part of your family, remember that moving can stress them out too.

"Animals can sense and react to stress just like people," said William Fortney, assistant professor of diagnostic medicine pathobiology at Kansas State University. "Anything we can do to make it easier on them can make recovering from the move easier on us. And the older the pet, the more stress they have."

Okay, so going by what he said, just let the dog know this is his new surroundings. I mean, my dog was 2 when we moved to another state, and for some reason she was really excited, but a little scared. Not really stressed. Your doggie may be frightened and confused in his new surroundings. Just love him, give him his familiar toys and food bowls and he will be fine really soon! Good Luck :)

Your dog may prefer the cool nights and not the hot days. Or he may just miss his friends and is suffering from JET LAG. His time and schedule are off put him back on track by spending all day at the water and playing and walking him in local parks so he can make new friends. When everything is new you are all that is secure to him............Good luck

You should get him checked by a vet to rule out any medical problems. I'm pretty sure that lyme disease is common in New Hampshire. Sometimes I see cases where a dog presents with just "acting funny" and it turns out to be lyme or another tick illness. Your vet may also want to rule out other diseases.

If your vet says that it is just anxiety, you can try getting him a D.A.P. collar. It stands for "dog appeasing pheromone." It can work wonders for anxious dogs.
