armani guy are you sure all those subs are active? Based on the description you have passive radiators on both the book shelf models, and the center is a different timbre'. Although I agree def tec is a good place to start.
Now you set a budget but neglected to say what you already have. speakers only and remember you need a good amp to drive the speakers (OK I will list a good amp as well)
Also do you want lots of base or clear sound? Over driven base in a system muddies up the works. I think what you meant is clear full range sound, that is not desiring of more base.
You need to audition critically several models of speaker and amps to get an idea of what you like sound wise first. Listen to a really good high end system first to get your ears tuned. (you can not accomplish this in a best buy so don't go there)
Also do not forget my 10% rule about interconnects and don't forget about power filtration.
Also some light reading to help you out.

Hi Ok. I need to know a few things. Are you a music listener or a movie watcher.? If you listen to more music ,but like to watch an occasional movie then you might want to consider building a high performance stereo system. If you have no real interest in the video aspect ,then a surround sound system is probably not for you.If however you watch a lot of movies and video shows then i have to know what is the size of the room you are going to use ?The size and layout of your room will determine the type and size of equipment that is best for your room.
Movie sound is primarily music and voice. The musical score sets the tone and mood of the movie. The emotional involvement ,suspense, tension and excitement of the movie are all a direct result of the movies sound track. When you check out an audio/video system,be sure to listen to various movie soundtracks and special effects. But always use music to make your final evaluation of the system. This is where real differences in equipment become obvious.
A surround sound system can be fit into any given space, but how it is implemented is the key to quality sound. In assembling an A/V system it is still important to follow the basic rules of Hi. Fi. : All the links in the chain are equally important. Audio and Video reproduction are damage control jobs.In any audio system the signal is passed down a chain. Sound travels from the Source components ,(DVD or CD player,VCR,Satellite.etc.) to the control components (Preamp.or Surround Processing Preamp.) to the Amplifiers and then to the Speakers. The base rule is the signal can never be improved within the chain once it has started. It can only be maintained or degraded. Therefore Audio and Video reproduction are damage control jobs.If we don't get quality information from the Source, the Preamp, Power Amps. And Speakers cannot improve the signal. The Preamp. and Power Amps.just make a bigger copy of the signal, which the Speakers reproduce No equipment can improve the signal given to it. What is generated from the Source component will be reproduced, but not improved,in the chain. Therefore, the goal is to change the signal as little as possible.
However ,even the very best Amplifier is not perfect and changes the sound a little. A poor Amplifier changes the sound a lot.Accordingly ,the best sounding equipment is often the simplest in design, with no unneeded features..Since tone controls are not needed and don't improve anything, the best equipment does away with them. This rule means you cannot fix an Amp. problem with a Speaker.Only a better Amp. can fix the problems caused by a poor Amp.This is where neally everyone gets it wrong. They say get a better Speaker to fix a faulty Amp. which it can't do.
Ok ,Now you know a bit about how the signal works in a system. So your budget is about 2K. And you like a lot of bass, but you want clarity.
What will be your main Source, a DVD player ? Do you want a 5.1,6.1 7.1 or more surround sound system.Do you want the Tuner,Preamp Processor, and Power Amps in the one unit(Receiver) or do you want separates? Do you want large floor standing Speakers for the front or are bookshelf ones more your style? What type of Speaker sound do you like (besides plenty of bass) Do you like speakers with a bright treble or a prominent mid -range sound?
Definitive Technology has a 3 way speaker system with a built in powered 12 inch 300 watt subwoofer which goes down to 15 HZ. I have never heard them but you might like them .That would give you the bass you are after and you won't have to buy a separate subwoofer plus you get 2 subs for your 2 front speakers.which will give you a balanced low end.You may like to check them out .

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.......
Ok so if you are going to use a DVD player as your main Source, just remember if it does a poor job of originating the information, we place a bad signal into the chain. This is an area where most dealers place the least emphasis. The better the DVD player, the better the sound and picture will be.Differences in quality can definitely be demonstrated to you. From the Source,Audio and Video signals are sent to the Preamplifier which selects the input source (choosing which source you want to listen to or watch),controls the volume ,processes the sound and controls the amount of power the Power Amplifiers give to the Speakers(also referred to as a Control Amplifier or Controller). The surround processor that is built into the Preamplifier takes the audio signals from the Source components (DVD,CD player,VCR,Satellite etc.),and directs them to the appropriate Power Amplifiers.Any small error by the Preamp.,such as noise, distortion,or harshness, will be multiplied when the Power Amplifiers make bigger copies and send them to the Speakers.Preamplifiers are the heart of the system. The Power Amplifiers receive the signals that are sent to them, make larger copies and send them to the Speakers where they are converted into the sound we hear.Simply, the Power Amplifiers control the Speakers.

Hehehe you can't ask for the moon for 2K.
That will buy you half a speaker if you are looking for a decent speaker company.
Seems that you already have a receiver? You need just the speakers?
See I would recommend the Tannoy Eyris DC3 but those are too expensive. You will probably get 1 for 2k.
You can try the PSB speaker system. You can get PSB Alpa B1 for your rears, left, right for around $750 (hehehe try phantom center, it works as well). Now get either the PSB subsonic 5i or the PSB 6i for the subwoofer. You should have enough from the left over. You you'll spend a little less than 2K for your speakers and sub.
If you need a receiver-you might have to spend more than 2K. I recommend the Pioneer 917K it's low cost and good enough for a low cost receiver.

depends if you want it for movies or just music, if you want it for just music i would recommend buying only 2 speakers. Robert recommended A pair of definitive technology towers with 12 inch sub-woofers built in, I have heard these speakers and let me tell you they are AMAZING not only sound quality but the bass is incredible! i would really recommend these if you love to listen to music and like bass.
Now if you want a home theater this will do a fine job with movies and music and the sub has allot of bass.
But if you want the best of both world's i would buy all your speakers separately i suggest you take a look at this setup i mad which is great for music and movies plus it has allot of bass.
Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 450
(front pair)
http://www.abtelectronics.com/product/14354.html
These speaker also have a built in 10 inch sub woofer in each speaker so they produce lows to 24Hz
Definitive Technology Studio Monitor 350 (rear pair)
these have a 8 inch sub built in to each and produce lows to 26Hz.
http://www.abtelectronics.com/product/13294.html
Definitive Technology 3-Way Center-Channel Speaker with Built-in Sub woofer (center Chanel)
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6626984&type=product&id=1151658128137
this has a built in active 8 inch sub that goes down to 22hz
This setup will give you amazing detailed sound, and it has 5 subwoofers so you will have heart pounding bass.
I suggest you buy these speakers because Definitive Technology because they are well know for making awesome sub woofers and having great sound quality, i have heard these components and give them my seal of approval.
Don't listen to the person at the top who suggested Bose, they have terrible sound quality and have absolutely no bass!

I recommend B.O.S.E. (Buy Other Sound Equipment) seriously, you can't get to much for only $2k i have had good luck with polk audio, but their product line is getting very expensive the RTi series is one of the better buys that i have come across-smooth mid and treble with a kick in the lower mids in all of the bookshelfs and centers
if you decide that you want bose, how about i give you my address and you can just send me the $2k? or you could light a fire with it, get a better car?
