Probably. But I do it anyways. Have you ever tried to cover a yawn by not opening your mouth? It looks ridiculous. Besides I read that most people will yawn out of empathy once someone else starts to yawn. So if everyone is doing it then how can it be rude?

I don't think so...it only means you may be tired. There's nothing wrong with a yawn....you can cover your mouth....

If it is a 'polite' yawn i.e., can't help yourself and you cover your gob.
In my case, I yawn profusely at my mother-in-law's. It is entirely justified.

depends, sometimes you yawn if your tired, but sometimes people take it the wrong way and think you are bored being with them or annoyed!
