Decimal form is always easy to do SI unit conversions. Decimal is always in a power of 10 form. Fractions can be hard to comprehend. People usually convert fractions to decimals in their head to comprehend them just as someone would convert meters to feet to understand it. Fractions are always precise though. They give the exact amount as opposed to decimals may repeat infinitely.

Decimals are more accurate if you are using precise equations and don't need conversion.
IE fraction
=1/2 + 1/4
=2/4 + 1/4
=3/4
Decimal
0.5 + 0.25 = 0.75

When taking precise measurements, exact fractions are almost impossible to come up with. e.g. when you try to measure to to the thousandth with a ruler, would you read something like 53/72 or 0.707? How can you be sure with the fraction? Fractions become impractical when you work in the real world where numbers don't fall exactly into 4ths, 8th, 12th or 16ths

Decimels are much easier to work with.
Not all numbers can be expressed as fractions of an inch without resorting to using 100 ths or 1000 ths of an inch anyway, so you might as well use decimals to begin with.

easier to work with...fractions get nasty in architecture work...adding fractions is a pain unless you have a calculator set aside for that...but even then, its an estimation. 've never been a fan of the metric system, but I can now see the advantage of the meter......
