im not looking for a religious book, but something that purely deals with whether or not there is consciousness after death, whether it is possible for a soul to separate from its body and still exist after death- or is death the end

Thanks- Andrew

Read a book by the father of modern psychiatry, Sigmund Freud. He'll tell you:

[1] Beliefs based on wishes rather than rational proof tend to be false.

[2] Religious beliefs are based on wishes.

[3] Religious beliefs are false.

[4] Religion is a "universal neurosis", a mental disease. There is no afterlife, no soul, no Heaven, no Hell. John Lennon also told us that.

Written by Jesse Duplantis - check out...
"Close Encounters of the God Kind" Amazon Books!!
I almost died when I was 24, and my soul and body separated. Let me tell you, Andrew, it scared me into getting myself right with God!!

Long story short, I ended up in Intensive care...and the Dr. who looked after me when I was in emerg...said he hears that all the time.

Years ago, a Dr. did an experiment to see if the human soul held weight...(care was taken and the weight each person lost at the time of death was approx 3/4 ounce. When the Dr. did the same experiment on dogs, no weight loss was noticed. Humans have a soul - dogs do not.

I read a book many years ago, when I was about to consider suicide (I wasn't a Christian at the time), and I opened it at a random page. There it stated, that a man who was clinically dead went to hell! Then he saw Jesus, and Jesus sent him back... the man said he had a time in the hospital with the Holy Spirit, telling him to write the experience down, "so that someone will read it". All of that in a page I selected randomly when I opened the book!! Then I decided not to consider suicide, "just in case" there was such a hell (I felt like that words were written for me).
That experience didn't led me to Christ at the moment, but about 3 years later, when I did find Jesus, and accepted him as Lord and Savior - and found a peace that I couldn't find anywhere else-, I remembered that experience and realized how good God was, since He did that to save me from considering taking my life at that really bad moment.

(By the way, I no longer have the book, that is the reason I cannot tell you its title)

2 Corinthians 5:8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Revelation 20:11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Rather than find a book written about what some human "thinks" happens when you die why not read what God has to say about what DOES happen after a person dies?

As any book dealing with that subject has in some way to involve religion, I can't really give you a good answer.

Try one of the books by the Dalai Llama, wonderful view upon the afterlife. But dont listen to the popular jumbo crap. FInd it by yourself, find what makes sense to you and try not to let some bible thumper get in the way of the truths in life.

Andy, you won't find it...

The Holy Bible is not a "religious book," per se. It is manual on how to live your life...and spend eternity with the living God.

Religion is man's way of trying to reach God. Relationship is God's way of reaching us, through Jesus Christ.

Grace and mercy are free gifts.
