I think its well documented that the Old firm is the biggest rivalry in Football however I wouldnt class it as the nastiest, i really cant say and your links dont really show it either.

Boca and River Plate would have to be close to being the nastiest. The South American firms are more like Mafias! Its all down to the set ups of the clubs. The fans have all the control. They decide who is voted in as Chairman and who should run the club, which basically means that THEY run the club. If they dont like something they sure as hell let you know about it! Oh! and dont get forget the gun culture!

You have brought up good examples, but not from the best leagues in the world. Nastiest rivalry ever in my opinion:

Manchester United - Arsenal
Whenever they meet each other, there's unbelievable atmosphere in the stadium. Of course, the stadiums are filled with people, no empty seat. Those games are always exciting, because we are dealing with two of the best clubs in the whole world. What really shows us that it's a rivalry is that players basically fight for their lives. Those games end with a lot of red cards, yellow cards and injuries which shows how desperate players are to win. It's a matter of honor.

I'll give credit to the oldest Derby and Football Rivalry in the World.....The Old Firm......Celtic vs. Rangers (Catholics vs. Protestants) Religion being one of the major roots of this rivalry.

In Argentina, I've seen a lot of crazy things these hardcore fans would do to eachother in the street and out in the stands when all hell breaks loose.
River Plate is the Middle to Upper Class team
Boca is the Working class team

Earlier this month, one of the leaders of the Borrachos del Tablon (Hardcore fans of River Plate) was assassinated most likely because of his affiliation...

Things like these are very common....South America tends to have these issues...

I am from Colombia....the big Rivalry in the Capital being Santa Fe and Millonarios..which is signified by Political affiliation (Liberals vs Conservatives)....there was this era in Colombia called La Violencia where these two political parties were just killing eachother off. My own family suffered through all this.
Now its all about the team more than politics....but fan violence will always exist....they kill eachother off for the team...they one time closed the stadium and were shocked to find all the hidden weapons in the "Barras" sections (hardcore fans).

I will say the Liverpool vs Manchester United rivalry is a big one where both cities just utterly hate eachother....it began during the industrial era in the 1880's by the building of the Manchester Ship Canal, cutting off Liverpool from being the primary shipping port of the area....that hatred is very well shown to this day with their hated Rivalry.

Agree with Frank----Among national squads, USA vs. Mexico is as good as it gets. Club teams---Barca vs. Real, Celtic vs. Rangers, Chivas vs. America, and a lot of others too....
