I had a nipple ring and loved it. It lasted about 6 months. Then I tore it. I didn't feel it tear, but I saw the tear later. After that, it rejected on the side that tore. I had it removed and it healed. I have a scar where the rejection occurred. My piercer has offered to re-do it, but I'm not sure if I want to chance it. If I re-pierce, will it just reject again? Would a barbell instead of a hoop be better? (I've read that it reduces the pressure on the hole.) Thanks!

I think it rejected the first time because it tore if it was fine and all healed up until then. If your piercer will do it then it should be fine, their judgement is usually pretty good about what will work and what wont. For the piercing to heal a ring is better if the position allows, easier to clean but after it's healed it wouldn't be a bad idea to change it to a barbell so that it can't get caught as easily, which most piercings are hard to catch things on anyway except belly button rings. Trust your piercer and go for it!

I have both of my nipples done and have been having some problems with them lately so it is funny you ask. I went to day to buy new jewelry and asked my piercer why It seemed that my nipples went healing a year later and If I should try a new style I now have a hoop. He said no that nipples with the barbell through them are much harder to clean and require you to take them out at lease once a week and put them back in. If you have already been having problems with them I really wouldn't get them redone. Plus piercing trough scar tissue is going to numb the feeling your original had.

If it honestly rejected, which is where your body pushes the jewelry OUT and AWAY, leaving a long scar or an open flap, I wouldn't do it again. The skin is already weakened there, and if your body rejected it once, chances of it doing it again increase. On the off chance you do peirce it again, scar tissue may leave the jewelry sitting crooked or funny. I prefer rings for fresh nipple piercings. Thread through a fresh peircing irritates a the skin further, and a ring is easier on healing.

Give it a couple of months to heal and for one of the crucial scar tissue to settle. You should not have a challenge with it a moment time when you hinder snagging it on stuff. You wish to preserve jewellery in it that is small as viable (oonce it is healed) and ideally a curved barbell. The minimize the profile of the jewellery, the fewer most likely it's to get stuck.

I would say to go ahead and do it again. It seems like the rejection had more to do with the tear than your body just not wanting it there. I have tried to get my bellybutton pierced 6 times...that is just flatout rejection...my body does not want it!

If you repierce it it should reject it, and yes a barbell would be better.
I would go in to a piercing parlor and ask.
