Space is a major problem and so is food and water, we cant just multiply like this anymore unless of course there is a alternate planet available for migration.
Already countries like India and China are facing major crisis maintaining law and order, living standards, providing adequate food, water, jobs for the growing population.

PERMACULTURE ANSWER(Almost)
I have pointed that out many times ,but many people get very upset
they get very nervous when you go below the belt
Mans sexuality and very often how many kids hes got is proof of his masculinity and insurance for old age
with many possible incomes to assist him when he himself cannot work any more
the second point is HOW do we ethically control populations
poor areas with less education DEMONSTRATE THE HIGHEST NUMBERS OF TEEN AGE PREGNANCIES,
educated women have less children
But uneducated populations are more religious and more resistant to birth control.
to forcibly control populations is frowned upon to say the least
So it is being done in sneaky ways
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
In the Netherlands after the war families were encouraged
to have few children because it is such a small country
not much bigger than Mexico city,
so it was physically impossible to fit a lot of people into the country ,There people can understand the concept of birth control,
But in larger countries many think like rabbits and think only of the family ,not the society as a whole
what happens if the country is full
wage war and kill everybody in another place to invade and settle there ,that would be the natural solution
In the past conquering countries encouraged the people to have many kids to be used as cannon fodder
or settling farmers needed many sons to provide labor,
one would have thought that we had progressed from that
But judging by the answers, many still cling to the old self centered or invasive philosophies
NATURES POINT OF VIEW
In Nature exists such a thing as the law of Harmony and Equilibrium
Some Native peoples have always been aware of this
to limit the tribes number to as many as the tribe can afford to feed
The Central Americans sacrificed the excess children, the earlier ones like the Olmec practiced birth control
Amazonian tribes have strict sexual rites that limit copulation in the conventional way.
Animals have lots of young when there is plenty of food ,and have little or none when the conditions are bad
when there is a plague of rabbits ,many foxes are born,
when there is no game lions ,and other predators have few cubs.
plants do roughly the same
All follow the LAW OF NATURE OF EQUILIBRIUM
everybody is welcome ,but nobody in excess.
we must co-exist on this planet and limit our numbers to our resources
All of Nature obeys these LAWS,but Humans put themselves above the LAW,and have bred themselves into a plague
It is a miracle that Nature has allowed us to get this far.
everything else is set upon by plagues ,disease or predators ,when they exceed their allotted quantity,or there are Natural disasters .
There are two moments in the existence of a specie when extinction is likely,
when there are two few
And when there are too many.
Maybe Gaia is trying to tell us something with Global Warming
Humanity should listen and beware
we are part of the same Eco systems
and subject to the same LAWS
whether we like it or believe it or not

somewhat likely that will happen since every 12 seconds, a human is born and every 8 seconds, a person dies. since the rate of children being born is higher than humans dying, there will be a lot of people in the next 7 centuries. There will be enough space, but not enough resources, like food, and gasoline (maybe we won't use that anymore), etc. So, probably, 50/50 chance.

We are already overpopulated.
We cannot reduce gobal warming as long as the population keeps increasing. Every person uses energy the more people the more energy used. Even if we drive better cars and use less electric energy the increase in people will increase the total energy and therefore the co2 in the air.
As we have less and less fresh water we will need to process sea and brackish water taking more energy per person.
The more land we build houses on the less we have for food the more exhausted soil and the need for petrochemicals to feterlize the soil.
Competition for land, food, water, energy, space and the good life lead to more wars.
China is the only country that has tried to deal with overpopulation and they have only slowed the growth of their population.

That's why sicknesses like hiv and other incurable diseases were created and pass on to humans and things like drugs put on the streets( think about the people who selling drugs didn't create it..... and bad food that causes things like heart diseases and more....And we all Know crime why are guns not banded yet...they can't stop all killing just by banding guns but a whole lot of crime will stop because everyone don't have the heart to stab someone.....
They say their trying to find the cure for aids and other deathly diseases and stop the violence. I think If they do that we would really be over populated and that would be the problem. All of these deathly diseases they might all ready have the cure but no one will ever know of it. All of those things I spoke about above is why we will never over populate.....I think if it comes close to over populating don't be surprised if you hear about a new deathly disease that's gonna be killing people left and right ......is it just a coincident .
nah I don't think so
I think the next big thing will be the westnile or something else maybe

You know, so many people die every day in the Third World, and the West is underpopulated, that we'll be a long time before there's no space for everybody. Let's accept the new comers in our Countries, here.

The world population will peak during this century and then decline as urbanization continues. Food production can keep up, as long as we are smart about things. The real problems are the distribution of food and water, which are again surmountable with inteligence.
