Who knows? Takes alot to please a pissed off crowd... I still think he should drive the 5... That # has history @ Hendrick and I'm pretty disappointed to see it go.

A number is a number. Dale wants to get a new start with a new team. Why not start with a new number unrelated to what he had?

The only thing the 38 or th 81 will do is make a bunch of fans happy.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why Dale Jr fans would like this number.

What about David Gilliland though? That's the same number his father Butch Gilliland used. Although I'm a Jr fan, it would just seem wrong to take that number away from David.

Whatever number Jr. gets I would be OK with as a fan. It's been said before, Dale Jr should get a whole different number that is not somehow related to his dad or grandfather. That way he could truly make the number his own.

If he gets fine...i'll be happy with any number he drives with, whether it be 81, 38, but I think he needs a total new identity, the #5 will be fine to.. New team new everything make it your own Jr... Just win baby win.....Go Jr Go....

It doesn't matter to me which number he drives. I will be a fan no matter what! The number doesn't make the driver, with that being said, I will miss seeing him in the 8 car, I'm so used to him driving the 8. It'd be cool to see him in the 38, but then again, I don't really like that number, because it hasn't been a winning number for too many drivers, but maybe Junior can change that, afterall, That has nothing to do with how a driver will race! LOL.

GO JUNIOR!

There has been rumors that he will be 81 next year. I was at Bristol last weekend and that was the word that was going around. I would like to see a 38 to honor his father, but I think it has been decided on 81

Who cares if the fans are happy or not! As long as Jr and Rick like it, it doesn't matter. The fans are gonna stick with him no matter what!

I dont think that he necessarily wants that number but I think that as long as it has an 8 in it he will be extremely happy. I dont think that RYR would release it unless they already have. So I think that he will probably use one of his own Busch numbers that he owns so he wouldnt have to make a new identity for himself like he has to somewhat already.

38 would be cool. but like the guy above me said he needs to create his own "number" make one for his self like Dale Sr and his grandfather. If he can do that he can really be one of the best. He needs to choose a number, stick with it, race with it, win with it, and race good with it, and he will make that number "historic".

I dunno.....I guess if his fans are trult his fans, it should'nt matter what the number is. 96 was Dale's first nascar number.Jr. is his own man, I feel he should start with a wholly irrelavent number and make it "HIS"own.

He did make the right choice, and best of luck next year.
