ok so my brother (a 13 y/o freshman) wont go to school.
we are trying to get him to go but its to much stress. my moms disabled so she cant really do anything and my dad doesnt live with us. he also is bipolar, anyways people are thinking about putting him in a hospital or taking him out of the house to a group home (his therapist is thinking about doing this). since hes bipolar his mind doesnt think out what could happen if you doesnt go to school etc.
Im trying to tell him but i cant do anything. also today the school said my mom will go to jail if her son doesnt go to school.
my sister and i think he should be taken out of the house were people can take care of him.
im just wondering what you think about what i wrote.
also he's a really big guy 6ft. so we cant pick him up and take him to school.
also at home he just eats and eats and just sleeps watches t.v and nothing more. he thinks thats a good life.

These meds that your brother is taking, need to be taken seriously, if he is taking lithium, he needs to be in a locked hospital environment for at least three weeks, in order forr the meds to start working, this is because that particular med will make him feel tired and lethargic all the time until he gets adjusted, also if he is taking something called Serequel, then he will be hungry a large part of the day, so alot of what he is going may be because of the meds and his inability to cope with the meds and everyday life, that is where the hospital comes in and provides a group setting so that he can learn to cope, if they have him on something else and keep switching his meds around this can have a huge negative effect on his behavior. From what I know there are a few bipolar people out there that don't want to take their meds and don't think they have problems. It is the people around them that actually see the true problems.

I know that dealing with someone who is bi-polar is extremely difficult, but can be handled with the proper medication. If you can, urge your Mother to have him put in a hospital until the proper medication can be found and then request that perhaps a group home for a while, might be a good idea.

wow. only 13 and all this? pretty tough situation. sounds like he needs his meds adjusted first off. can he live with your dad for a while? if not and your mom has done all she can, she may have no choice but to put him in theraputic day school or something similar. it won't be forever. just till he gets his act together. i wish you and your family the best of luck with this. god bless.

You should get help for your brother. Let the people take him to a hospital. Don't feel guilty about it. It's probably the best for both you and your family.

Talk to a counselor at school and tell himt he situation. Your family needs BIG help, with your mom and your brother, and you!! probably you guyts are minors......
Social services need to be part of this process.
Get help! he has a medical (sometimes dangerous) situation.....................
