Oxygen generally comes compressed in a cylinder or a bank of cylinders...Some places like hospitals even have cryogenic receptacle oxygen(liquid stuff)...the pressure we are looking at here is much higher than atmospheric lets say 200 times more so to get it back to a more usable pressure at a rate we can use a pressure regulator is used..In some applications more than one in series with another is used as the use of one creates such a drop in pressure that freezing is a big concern...After all if we had our oxygen mask hooked up to about 50psi it would blow your lungs out the other side...well that's an ugly picture....:) Have a great day remember one atmos = 14.7psi at sea level..+/- a bit....Good luck from the E...

Oxygen systems are usually at a pressure of 2000 psig.

The main function of the pressure reducing valve is to control the rate of flow of oxygen out of the system while at the same time reducing the pressure, so that the oxygen can be used for breathing and other purposes.

.Assuming you mean Oxygen concentrator . It makes it so you can adjust for altitude IE the higher up you are the more pressure you need . If the pressure is to high at low altitude the percentage of oxygen will be lower. The pressure valve is inside the case. Not to be confused with the adjustable flow valve on front (LPM) 1 to 5 or 6 averiging 2-3 but that is for a Doctor to decide. Hope this helps you!

To reduce the pressure to a safe level that human body can take. Normally human body can take pressure at around 1 atmospheric pressure. People feel discomfort when the pressure deviates. For example, if you are on a high mountain, the air is thin and pressure is low. Some people can get sick. On the other hand, the Oxygen system like to store as much Oxygen as possible in its container. The way to do it is to increase the pressure many times. Therefore, as an interface between a high pressure storage tank and your body, a regular is needed.

If it wasn't used then you would either blow up like a balloon or you would jet your face off with the pressure.
