Free? Nothing is ever free. How do you plan on acquiring your equipment?

The closest you can get is to find a professional photographer who needs an assistant and offer to work for no pay if you have to. Be honest - tell them your plans. If you're fortunate enough to find such a position, keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut - especially when working. You can ask questions later.

If that doesn't work out, try correspondence courses from the New York Institute of Photography.
