Quick question...
I try and do pushups nightly before I goto bed every day, but I'm wonderin how many I actually have to do to make any sort of difference.

Right now, I can do about 30 before I give up, n' then I just head to bed. Should I do more reps of 30, you think? Is 1 enough to make any sort of difference?

For a 17 year old male, is 30 push ups kind of pathetic? I don't really do any other sort of workout apart from running. I don't want to goto the gym and weight train, will doing these pushups be enough to stay in shape and maybe build up some muscle in my arms? Or do I need to do some other sort of exercise, and if so, what, and how much of it?

Thanks...

push-ups are actually a good total-body workout. you should keep up the good work...no, 30 isn't a horrible number. doing them w/o stopping is really good. :-)

if 30 isn't challenging you enough, try to do 2 or 3 sets. you also might want to try switching things up - like doing them on an incline (put your feet on a chair or on a stability ball), do them on one foot, do them with your hands out wide (really works the chest) or closer to the middle (really works the biceps and triceps).

just relax...it takes time to see results...especially since your a 17 year old male, i'm sure you have a fast metabolism. give yourself time.

good luck!

how much do u weigh we need to know first, also ur height. its not pathetic it all depends on ur height and weight. i would guess that people between 90 and 200 should be able but im not a doctor im just going based on what i do. i do 50 before each night ends but i do a lot of sports and go to the gym so dont worry 30 is not pathetic at all if you dont do many sports or go to the gym. as for making a difference i think about 10 makes the difference when u start to feel the burn in ur arms. but doing pushups before each night definitly makes a difference.

most importantly if you are feeling a good burn towards the end of your pushups then your fine.
