If you already have a green card then you are considered a permanent resident. If you are here legally but don't already have a green card then you are considered a conditional resident. I hope this answered your question better than some of these others did.

all these posters are assuming you are illegal. For all they know you could be a permanent resident. anyway, just cuz your child is a citizen , it doesnt make the parent one. so, your status is the same, whichever it is.

You must follow the legal channels and file to become a citizen just like everybody else, if that is what you want to know.
If your child is a citizen, it might help you to get a visa faster, but the citizenship still takes a long time.

I don't know, what the fuss is all about!
You should be the same citizen as your child. But i know, law says it otherwise!
this's just my opinion, and i also know, lot of people are itching to disagree with me!!

You can't become a citizen thru your child. However, you will be able to stay in the U.S. at least until your child is an adult.

Considering the responses you have received thus far, why would you want to live in US?! there're lots of nonsense prejudice with their daily bull crap comments!!
And when you confront them, they say, no, we're just against illegals, which is another bull crap!! they're all frickin racist!!
ACCO, i love your cool response. I wish, there were many like you.
