I got a red light ticket in Venice and it cost me $380, it IS a point on your record if you do not go to traffic shcool, because it IS a moving violation, but since it is your first ticket you can do traffic school, which in that case will NOT go on your record, which is pretty easy if you do it online, it cost me about $30 to take the online course and they send the certificate directly to the court you are going to. I also asked the judge to make payments for the fine, which almost everyone who went to court that day did too, and they let me set my own amount ($50 a month) but there is an extra fee for making payments, about $50 I think.
If you do not do traffic school it will stay on your record for 3 years and will definately increase your insurance premium.
When you get the ticket and a copy of the pictures in the mail, make sure your face is very clear as the driver, becuase if it isn't you can dispute it at court, if you do the judge will go back and look at the original photo, if he cannot ID you as the driver it will be dismissed.

A photo ticket is the same from a police officer. It will count as 1 point against your driving record. Unless you attend traffic school. In that case you will pay for the class and cost of the fine (which by the way I believe failure to stop for a red traffic signal is somewhere around $250.00). You will be given a completion of traffic school certificate. Which you will send to the DMV to have this 1 point removed. So your insurance does not increase.

It won't go on your record if you go to traffic school, and there are lots of them you can do online.
I paid $275 for running a red light in LA County. Traffic school will run you about $130.

If I remember correctly, tickets from cameras are fine only. They won't show up on your record. So it shouldn't affect your insurance. As for the cost. It's all up to the municipality, so you'd have to check with them.
