Most of our feelings can be expressed with body language. If you care enough about someone to learn simple expressions in their language, they will usually try to meet you half-way by using what they know of English. I spent two years in Germany and have studied Spanish. Spanish is one of the easier languages to learn (my opinion) and you don't need to be really proficient to start. Simple things like saying 'gracias', 'por favor' show that you really are interested. That alone says a lot.

I am no longer a psychologist however I have the equivalent revel in. I discovered that I used to be competent to mention some thing in a overseas language which I should not have mentioned in my mom tongue. I feel it is given that of the cultural context. If you're introduced up in a extra reserved tradition in which the unfastened expression of feelings is frowned upon, you can also discover that you're extra competent to precise your feelings within the English-talking global.

the obvious would be to learn their language (and yes, anyone can learn you just have to practice and take the time). If you won't do that, get a translator everytime you speak. If you won't do that, smile when your happy, cry if your sad, yawn if your tired, and your stuck there I guess. I dunno, you could try a spanish dictionary and WRITE what you want to say. Good luck!

Give him a big ol' hug and a kiss on the cheek (or just the hug will suffice)!
I've hugged *so* many people at work I'm surprised no one's yelled at me yet!
Like, a customer will be really sweet or say something remarkable or w/e, and I'll just come around the counter and give 'em a big ol' hug!
Hug the poor fella, man!
Or you could say it in Italian like "Grazie, grazie, grazie! Grazie mille!"

All too often a good solid punch in the eye gets the message across just fine.

smile, it's universal.
Also try translating your thoughts with babelfish translation site and writing notes to the person.
