cut okra and soak them in the water for 5 minutes. Add oil to a sauce pan, add salt pepper, tomato pieces, chopped onions, garlic and fry all together along with okra pieces. You can add a little water to have a saucy mix or you can reall fry all until all the water is gone and almost dry.

Cut up okra into 1/2 pieces, discarding ends & tips. Add salt, black pepper & garlic salt(to taste), a little water or milk & extra fine cornmeal. Mix all together(make sure cornmeal is sticky and sticking to the okra)...it's going to be VERY gooey) Fry on medium high heat in small batches til nice and golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

Now eat and enjoy! I absolutely LOVE fried okra.

Oh....you can make home-made "pickled okra" too. I've canned several jars in the last 2 years. Me and my husband love it.

Southern Fried Okra
1 lb fresh okra, cut into pieces (don't use the top of the stem)
2-3 cups cornmeal
1 egg
2 cups buttermilk
salt and pepper
oil
In a big bowl beat egg with a fork, pour milk in and combine. Pour the cornmeal in another big bowl. Pour enough oil in a big skillet, halfway up, or you can use a deep fryer. Set heat to Medium-high. Put some okra pieces in milk mixture and then coat in cornmeal batter. Fry in skillet 10-15 min, occasionally turning/stirring them around. They are done when crispy and golden brown but not black! Drain on paper towel lined plate. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

******ENJOY!!!!

In a shallow bowl whisk together cracker crumbs, flour, and salt to taste. In another shallow bowl beat egg. Cut pepper Jack into twelve 1 1/2- by 1/2- by 1/4-inch pieces. With a sharp knife cut a 2-inch slit lengthwise on side of each okra. With fingers gently pull slit slightly open and insert a slice of cheese. Transfer okra to a plate and chill 5 minutes. Working in batches of 4, dip stuffed okra in egg to coat, letting excess drip off, and roll in cracker crumb mixture, shaking off excess. Arrange okra in one layer on plate as coated and chill 5 minutes. In a deep 10-inch heavy skillet heat oil over moderate heat until hot but not smoking and fry okra, 4 at a time, turning them, until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes. With a slotted spoon transfer okra as fried to paper towels to drain. Season okra with salt and serve immediately with salsa. Makes 12 poppers..

i like to fry it crispy in corn mill, or cook some bacon, then saute some onion in the grease(about a 1/4 cup) then put in the okra( sliced into 1/2 in rounds)and mix that all together. then put in a chicken flavored bouillon cube from Knorr, and add a can of diced tomato's and a can of water. let that come to a boil then turn down the heat and let it simmer, stirring occasionally.i like to add a little from a lemon as well. salt and pepper to taste. corn bread goes good with it. you could also add shrimp or chicken or even sausage to it to make a sort of gumbo, but any Cajun will tell ya if it doesn't have a roo then it ain't a gumbo. oh well it taste good. try it some times.

They actually have more recipes for okra, but frying it seems to be the most popular way to prepare it.

Good Eating!
