There is no definitive answer. For one thing the blocks are longer east/west, sometimes 5 times as long as north/south. I've heard that the average length is 1/20th of a mile.

....NY, NY, the City so nice "they" named it twice and it's open all night long... but the City blocks are not all the same... a good rule to follow is about "20" blocks to the mile... but it's not exact... Take a Cab, he'l get you there...
