My dog had one testicle drop and one that was retained inside. My vet said it was a definite risk for developing cancer and I had him neutered at 6 months. He was fine and lived to be 16 years old. If you are going to have him neutered anyway I would go ahead and do it.

I think it is definately something you should start saving for now, because this won't be as straight forward as the usual op. A vet can advise you how much it is likely to cost. You don't need to get it done straight away, but the sooner the better. If left for too long (or so my Aunt told me, whose dog had the same thing) testes that don't drop have a chance of turning cancerous, but it is not a certainty, I don't think.
Please do start saving in earnest, as it could cost quite a bit, seeing as they have to use a more invasive surgery to remove these, since they are located inside the dog.

This is what happens when you buy from a puppy mill/backyard breeder. A real breeder wouldn't have even let the dog go until MINIMUM 12 weeks. It *should* happen before 7 weeks of age. If they haven't dropped by 6 months, then he will need to have a special neuter surgery as opposed to the regular one.

The retained testes are very very prone to cancer. Its not a medical emengency but well wouldn't wait too awful long as its a gamble. My dog who had retained a teste was neutered at just over a year - and I doubt waiting longer is very wise - besides increasing the cancer risk waiting much past a year means the testies will atrophy and be hard to "find" and the surgery be harder on vet & dog.....

well, it's good you planned to have him neutered. It's a fairly simple operation and having undescanded testicles doesn't make it much more complicated. If you can't afford to have it done contact your local shelter and see if there are low cost spay/neuter programs available in your area. Most areas have clinics where you can have it done for less than $100.

The undescended testicles can lead to cancer. You should have him neutered soon to prevent cancer. The sooner the better. But please follow the vet's suggestions on when to have it done.
