Own a 04 Ram 3500 4x4 quad cab with the CTD HO 5.9L with 4 speed auto 48re transmission and 3:73 rear end. I have the Edge Juice with Attitude installed on my Truck for over a year now. I have had zero issues with the performance chip besides going through the rear rubber!
The only things I added when I added the chip & guages was a AFE stage 2 CAI to help reduce the EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) as well I added a 4 inch pipe from my turbo back to a aftermarket free flow muffler (diamond eye).
If you are looking at getting the Edge Juice with attitude monitor make sure you install the pyrometer Pre-turbo takes alittle more time but it will give you more accurate readings than post turbo. The set up for the chip and monitor took me about 2 hours to install myself and it was the pyrometer that took the most time to install pre-turbo.
With no transmission upgrades I stay out of stage 4 (race) & 5 (extreme) most times as I was warned by a few guys not to play around to much in these stages as it will eventually take a toll on a stock tranny. However, you can set your attitude monitor to avoid torque converter slippage. I do play every once and awhile on the highway in stage 4 & 5 with not tranny issues to date.
Also, I pull a 26.5ft fifth wheel and stay in stage 2 (tow mode) with not issues with EGT's ,engine temp's, turbo boost and % backdown. Around town I find stage 1 is great for fuel economy and Stage 3 on the highway enough power for passing and getting great fuel economy. Since installing the Edge I have seen 4 to 5 MPG increases 16 to 18 MPG City and 21 to 24 MPG Highway this is also running 35's on my truck.
I looked into Bullydog, Banks, Quadzilla and talked with several diesel mechanics and the majority say they would place the Edge in there Diesel. However, you will hear good & bad stories about all performance chips out on the market. I have not turned back and regretted getting The Edge Juice with Attitude. It makes it nice to program and configure your chip as you drive and also keeps a close eye on your EGT's, boost & engine temps.

It depends on how you use the truck. If you are hard on it and abuse it daily it will likely eat up the trans quickly. I would suggest putting an aftermarket torque converter and valve body in, and that will hold really well. If you start going after bigger power, such as injectors, turbos, etc, you're going to need to look at billet shafts, pretty much a full billet trans to hold the power reliably. I would not do anything like boosted launches and burnouts, those are good ways to slip the heck out of the TC and burn it up fast.
As for the best chip, it's usually owner preference. TST has a Powermax box that works well, Edge has the Drag Comp. Stay away from Banks products, they give you marginal gains for a huge price. You can get more power for much less. I suggest installing gauges before you do any power mods. A pyrometer and trans temp are a must, a boost gauge is optional but not fully necessary.

Dont personally owna diesel but have many friends that do. Astock truck can handle a programmer of any sort if you dont exceed the first power level which is around 80hp. But as you then start bumpin the levels up your power train in the tranny also need upgraded this is the point where the torque goes threw the roof and you can destroy the trans or torque converter and start throwing engine codes but you can beat any car or truck that lines up to ya at a light. The edge juice attitude and the bully dog power pup have dne the best that ive seen so far.

the trans will take the power if you are smart about it. i would recommend a trans temp gauge so you can monitor the temp. it all depends on what you do with the truck. i saw a 48re with a programmer completely desroyed after 2 passes at the strip. it was other wise stock, less than a year old.
