Cost to rent a ballroom at a 4 or 5 star hotel, 100 guests, served meal--not buffet, no alcohol, no band, large cake, nice centerpieces... I'm just looking for an estimate, you don't have to get upset for details.

It really varies from state to state, but I can give you some really rough estimates:
Ballrooms for 100 people can be smaller, check with teh hotel and see what sizes they have available. Here the larger ones rent at about $1000, the smaller at $500-700. This includes tables, chairs, white linens.

Most hotels have minimums on the food. The one I work with the most here actually has a lower food minimum for sit-down meals than buffets, because it is already portioned out. Also, remember that the sit-down meals usually include a salad, entree with veg & starch, bread, butter, dessert, water, tea and coffee. About $32-42 per person on this. Check out taxes & fees & gratuities though!

I would break it down like this for the reception only:
$700 ballroom
$4500 meal
$350 cake
$500 centerpieces (that is 12 total, 6 @$35 each & 6 @$50
each)
________________
$6050

Of course, this is very rough!

It absolutely depends on where you live, but for a 4 or 5 star hotel you are probably looking at $50-$100 per person for sit down dinner. (Depends on what food will be served and how many courses.) That would be for the ballroom 5 hours and the meal. (Florist and Cake would be separate.)

That is just a ball park, you need to look up the hotels in your area and either call or check out their web sites for the real scoop.

Cakes run from $3-6 per serving depending on what type of cake, flavor, what type of icing etc etc.

You really have to do some calling around, because costs just vary way too widely.
If the catering is done by the hotel, the ballroom cost will be included. So from there it depends what your choices for your served dinner will be - steak and lobster as opposed to chicken breast, for example, are a big difference in cost.
Look at at least 10k.

It depends very much on where you live. $10,000 minimum.
