I heard its true that if a stranger is in your car and pointing a gun at you, you are suppose to purposely crash the car so you can get away. Does anyone know any self defense tricks like this?

An acquaintance, once relayed this true story. He picked up two strangers (what a moron) anyway there were weapons that appeared and was threatened with his life. He told the pair that he just stole the car and murdered the previous owner and was on the run. Further relayed that they would be accessory to the crime since they were in the car, or would have possession if caught later. They forced him to stop very quick and hauled ***. He was very lucky no doubt. Just Don't put yourself in this situation or even try it to get rid of them because they may have NOTHING to lose by offing you.

Nice question. It's actually from a movie where the person driving has his seatbelt on, and he has a passenger that doesn't. The passenger has a gun pointed at the driver, so the driver intentionally drives his car into a building, ejecting the passenger through the windshield and allowing the driver to walk away dazed, but unharmed.

Don't remember the movie, but it was one of those James Bond type. In reality, it may work, but a better idea would be to not pick up strangers with guns.

If you do end up in a dangerous situation, remember that your number one priority is not to fight, but to escape. Obviously, the best plan is not to be there in the first place, but if you do find yourself in trouble, don't hesitate to take every available escape route. If you are confronted and you cannot immediately escape, you may want to consider complying, at least until you can escape. When faced with someone who demands your wallet, purse, jewelry etc... - give it to them, and get out of there. No possession, however valuable, is worth risking your life over.

In an extreme situation, you can use many everyday objects as a weapon. A pen or pencil can be used as a dagger, or a phone or lamp could be used as a club. Anything that is harder, sharper or more resilient than your hands can be used effectively, so take the time (preferably in advance) to look around for everyday objects that you could use to defend against a violent attacker.

One of the most importance tenets of self-defense is that when attacked - you must attack back! You need to make your attacker worry about their own safety, instead of how they're going to hurt you. In an extreme situation, you may have to be vicious. Attack your assailant's weaker points, like their eyes, groin or throat. Do not hesitate, since it will only give your attacker more time to formulate their own attack. Overwhelm your assailant, trying to momentarily disable them, so you can escape!

That's stupid. Crash on purpose.
I didn't watch that movie, but have a similar true story from years ago.
One afternoon on my way home from work, I picked up a pair of hitch hikers. 2 males, early 20s or so. These youngsters, being a little cocky, thought they might scare me a little or something. One asked, "What if we just got out of prison? What if we tried to rob you and take your truck?" I answered "I'm not worried, your going the wrong way. That's the prison right in front of us. Besides, I'm the one in control. Just what do YOU think would happen if I slammed the brakes without warning? I have something to hold on to." I saw two very white faces that suddenly weren't saying anything at all. So, with a smile, "Where did you boys say you were going again?"
I let them out a couple miles down the road with "Have a nice day". And a little food for thought, I'm sure.

That is very dangerous, and, I'll say it, very stupid advice.

You may as well pull his gun to your chest and pull the trigger for him. Any collision that has a chance of saving you from the hijacker has an equal chance of killing you.

Imagine this scenario: You crash the car, breaking your legs or, possibly parylizing you and the hijacker still has the gun on you. How do you get away? Cops will tell you that you have the BEST chance for survival by doing exactly what the hijacker asks.

There are never any guarantees, but the police advice is to give you the best chance at survival.

Keep a knife in your Glove box?
or just do what they say and keep driving.
I dont see how crashing a car is going to let you get away
