I could not decide so I asked my married best friend to be the matron and I ask the other one to be the maid. But the are already saying they want to stand next to me. Oh my cat fight. Who walks with the best man or can I decide? I know I would want the mais beacause they know each other. But have the matron sign the marriage license.

Actually if you read the wedding magazines and such they say that the maid takes precedence in the ceremony. I am having both as well. I am having the Maid stand next to me and the Matron sign the license. Exactly like you are doing. When you talk to the Matron just say I know you wanted to stand next to me but It would really mean a lot to me for you to sign the license and I need to split the duties. You could also have one fix your dress and the other hold your flowers.

The Matron of Honor stands beside you. Matron trumps Maid. If the number in the bridal party is uneven then they both walk with him. If it's not then the Matron of Honor does. Anyone can sign the marriage license. Let the Maid do it if she is so concerned about having something to do.

It's your wedding and you can do whatever you want. If you want the maid of honor to stand next to you, then do it. If you want the matron to sign the license, then do it. It's your wedding and don't let anyone make the decision for you. If they get upset, explain nicely that this is the way you would like it.

As far as wedding etiquette, the Matron of Honor stands next to you then the Maid of Honor. They could actually both walk with the best man.

As far as your marriage license you should ask your officiant if they both need to sign it or just one.

If you want an easy way out just say "the rules for the wedding say matron then Maid" But you can do it the other way if only one can sign the license.

It's up to you, but don't let them make you feel bad or push you into doing anything you don't want. You are the bride and you are teh boss, they stand where you say and walk with or without who you say!

Good luck I am sure it will work out!

If you're going to have the matron sign the license, why not let the maid stand next to you? Seems like a fair deal to me. :) Or, suggest that and then let them pick which one they'd rather do. I hope you work it out.

There is only ONE position - either a matron (married) OR a maid (unmarried) of honour. The other is a bridemaid. The Matron of Honour would stand next to you and walk with the Best Man.

Why not have your husband to be walk the matron to her spot in line then the best man can walk the maid down. The matron can stand kinda behind you....sorta like she's got your back and go from there

It doesn't matter what they want, this is your wedding you tell them how they will stand and they should be lucky and happy that you even chose them to be with you on your special day and not sitting out in the audience with the guests. Don't let this little decision stress you out!
