Yes!
It is a great way to keep fit, improve reflexes, and help mental concentration.
There is MORE to martial arts than just kicking the hell out of someone.

depends on the size and maturity of the child. My son is big for his age, and knows how to play by the rules. But a small kid or one who is easily disappointed by losing may have a hard time with the rules and dicipline of kickboxing

I've got an 11 year old and I'd let her kickbox... as long as she wasn't into it in order to be an instigator. If it helped her defend herself, great, but I don't want her being the bully.

I would think its fine. I teach 5th graders and in PE they do a small amount of that. I have a 12 yr. old as well and he has never asked to kickbox.
It really depends on your child and how he may use what he learns.

It really depends on how good the child is. If he was a calm child and listened very well yes. if he was out of control where i could not handle him most of the time then no it would more than likely be a big mistake and he would end up in alot of trouble then i would only blame myself

I would allow them to learn it as a way of staying in shape. However, I don't think it would be safe or healthy to let them compete.

Sure, if they wanted to. It teaches self discipline and is good exercise. Just make sure they aren't doing it 'cause they want to beat someone up...
