Are just not advanced enough yet? As I pointed out earlier, one doesn’t require vast amounts of knowledge in order to contribute to society; in fact, society needs the majority to not devote their lives to education. We need gas station attendants, check out chicks, process workers, Bill O’Reilly etc. And since knowledge is the opposition to religion; education can set us free of religion, there’s no driving force for education. We’re boned!

First of all your question is insulting to the working class. You really believe that gas station attendants, cashiers, and process workers are uneducated? You really think they didn't finish highschool where they learned mathematics and other basic skills to do their jobs? Sorry not everyone can be a senator or a surgeon. How would an uneducated working class advance society? Only if that class were educated and able to contribute more after these jobs does society advance. Its called working your way up the coroporate ladder.

Knowledge isn't the opposite of religion; common sense is. Everyone is born with common sense, everyone is also born with fear(some more than others). Religion helps some people fight that fear.

To answer your question:Japan and Sweden(like the above commenters mention), Germany, China, Russia, France, and Iceland, among many others I'm sure, are majorly non religious and are obviously successful.

There will always be levels of education. And intelligent people who choose not to have a higher education. I didn't go to college and am working a lower class job and it's working out great for me.

Countries like Sweden have organically become atheist and succeed. They've grown willingly into their atheism, it wasn't imposed from above. Those countries that have been officially atheist have only been so because they had a failed ideology that tried to substitute itself for theism. Marxist/leninist societies failed because their political/economic alternative to theism was flawed and the atheism they sought to enforce wasn't one that the people governed had come to on their own. Countries that are gaining a majority of atheists without trying to force it are among the most successful in the world.

You are bloody joking. The planet would immediately lower its Co2 levels if Bill O'Reilly was 'raptured' a little early. Or ruptured, either works.

Atheist.

One reason they have not been successful is their complete lack of regard for human life. Since they believe there is no God, they also believe there are no rules but the ones they make. So they kill people. Hitler -6 million, Mao- 20 million, Stalin- 20 million and etc. Have a nice day.

Atheists won't band together simply on the concept of being atheists. That would sound too much like a religion. Also who would meet up with another person simply to state a lack of belief in something?

Atheists will, however, band together with each other and with religious folk on subjects they do believe in, like fishing or sport to name 2 examples.

Faulty argument.

Knowledge is NOT the opposition to religion.

"A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading."

"Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil."
