I lived there for 8 years. It's great if you have plenty of money, not so great otherwise in my opinion. I do love NYC but it can be a jungle! Rents are very high, and it sounds like you would need a three bedroom and they are not only very expensive but kind of hard to find really. Getting around is time consuming if you don't have a car or money to take a cab everywhere. The buses and subway are great but they have their own unique problems, like the subway will just stop for a half hour due to "police activity" and all you can do is just sit there! OK, most important for you - the schools are either really great and almost impossible to get your kid into, or they really s#ck and you will have to do some serious home schooling to keep them up. We lived in Brooklyn and in the Bronx. We applied to 30 schools (most require a fee to just apply in addition to parent and child interviews) and our six year old did not get into one of the schools we applied to - both public and private. So he went to our neighborhood school in the Bronx and it was a nightmare - teachers screaming, using food for rewards, hot and crowded rooms, no supplies - it was scary and it was just kindergarten. We moved to Santa Monica California just to get away from the NY school system. We did experience some crime - my wallet was stolen twice right under my nose. We heard sirens all hours of the night and day. Oh yeah, it's dirty and littered in the poorer areas of Manhattan and nice and clean and pretty in the richer areas. Same with the childrens parks - there's a huge discrepancy. Last but not least, Central Park is the best!! Good luck.

I grew up in Miami and married a clean Yorker too. I divorced him 9 years later. Cracker+ Yankee is taking a huge threat. If the hot Yorkers all left Florida the Cubans would nevertheless be there so i think of i'd choose the Yankees.

I think that it would be and very good experience for you and your family. I think that you should do it. I mean if you like the city life then it wnat be to fast for you or your famly and also it depends on were you move to in New York to consider schools for your children. I mean if you move to the ghetto you get the ghetto if you move to and half way decent area then you and your family should be just fine..
