He needs a wife....Who else is going to play the piano? LOL...no kidding in most of the churches I have attended,,,it is the Pastor's wife who plays the piano.
I don't think it makes one whit of difference if it is a fairly young guy. Now if a man is forty, never been married and lives with his Mother,,,not a good sign...that he would know enough about family life to be a good pastor...Experience counts for a lot...Pastor's have to deal with a Lot of things concerning their congregation...a lot has to do with family problems...if he hasn't a clue what they are talking about,,,he wouldn't be much help...
Edited for pestie58.......You are speaking of the Catholic Church Priest, not the Christian Chruch Pastors....different by a landslide....

Every church consists of families, and how can an unmarried person counsel a married couple, when he never went through it and don't know the many challenges that marriage presents ? That is why I would think may be the reason why. If he is very young, then he has no experience at nothing and in my opinion wouldn't be a good pastor anyway.

Because the wife of a Pastor has a certain role to fulfill in a church and the churches want to be sure that that role is fulfilled. Also, it is a sign of stability.
Though I do not judge the Catholics, I have always felt that much of the problems they have with pedophilia could be solved by letting the Priests and Nuns marry. But, someone correct me if I am wrong, the Catholic church feels that you need to be married to God and a wife or husband would interfere with that?

I was raised Catholic and while I was really young my parents had some trouble with their relationship and went to the Priest to seek answers. I could not understand then...or now...how he could have helped them work through their troubles. That Priest had no 'flesh' relationship.
Besides, the Pastors wife also has a role, therefore the Pastor, being married, has shown his commitment to the Lord and to his wife.

Because it's scriptural and it helps cut down on immorality...
1 Corinthians 7:2-3 – “But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.” (NIV)
Hebrews 13:4 – “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” (NIV)
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 – “It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable” (NIV)

I believe that "marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children." God's plan enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him.

it's not a religious issue...more a cultural one-our culture equates marriage with stability, maturity, family values...also, a pastor quite often has to counsel people about their family situations-marriage, child-raisng, etc...and a lot of people are more comfortable getting advice from someone who's 'been there...'

The true test of faith is in the home. Can a man love his wife selflessly, lead his children in truth AND grace.
There is a lot of temptation for the single man to repress his sexual desires and become sick in the head.

What wussupmang said - a man who can balance family life and his spiritual life tends to be more trusted as a stable person. It gives him roots, ties to the community and makes him less likely to up and leave the community.

I would imagine it would be so the wouldn't be as interested in sexual things such as dating, etc if they already had a wife at home. They could concentrate on preaching. I dont know but that sounds good to me
