I'm 17 and I have a high resting heart rate (about 100 bpm). The doctor told me it was due to lack of exercise. It's true i haven't worked out as much as i used to these past few months, but i've decided things will change.

However, i'd like to know whether or not any of you have been in the same situation, and what workout routine can I do to improve my heart rate (and also how long will this take)

I walk five miles a day, my resting heart rate is 57. People who do not exercise have higher rates for sure. If you do cardio for at least 45 minutes per day you'll have a slower resting heart rate in no time at all. That is, the number 220 minus your age times 80 percent. You are 17, therefore 220 -17 equals 203 maximum heart rate times 80 % =162 beats per minute for 45 minutes. Ladies have a naturally higher resting heart rate than men do like 78 vs 70 for men.
